It is not infringing on your "freedom" in any way. Using an airlines services is a privelage; not a right. Therefore, they have the sole discretion to limit and monitor all the activity that occurs whilst others use THEIR property.
Basically... if you don't like it - walk. |
But honestly how is it a privilege?
It's my right to use it, by way of paiement.
and hummm I think you're forbidden to carry long knife around when you walk ... I think that's totally not cool! Where are my personal liberties :conf: :stongue: |

its the government thats imposing these regulations, isnt it? the airlines only ahve the policies because the govt requires them to.
or am i misunderstanding?
he who would trade a little freedom for a little security will have neither and lose both. - ben franklin |
The airlines play no part in this, they just transport the passengers but they aren't the ones controlling what can and cannot go aboard a plane. |

| This will have serious economic effects. Soo many failing airlines right now- I predict a serious crash in the market when this comes into place. |

I'll bet it actually helps them along, once people get over the knee-jerk reaction...it'll be faster, safer, & easier. The other changes made things safer, but at a giant cost of time & convenience.
Also, it is your right to fly once you have paid. However, the airline can refund your money or refuse to take it in the first place if they wish, as they are still not run by government control.
After thinking it over, I realized that, while it doesn't affect me too much, as I don't need to bring my laptop on flights, for people who do, this now means having to pack those things. That's something I would hate to have to do. I always try to avoid checking anything electronic at all, and I'd never have considered putting a laptop in there.
Regardless, though, times have changed, and guns and knives aren't the only things people can use to crash or blow up a plane anymore, so the only choices left, until technology advances to the point of being able to screen all this stuff effectively, are to make many people angry and annoyed and inconvenienced and, potentially, hurt the industry in the short-term, or to carry on and just hope nothing bad happens.
Personally, I'll take the former.
Lastly, I just realized that while the airlines probably won't be hit too badly on the whole, I can definitely see short-range flights getting a pretty big hit from this. |

| I think you are wrong. |

The industry is so fragile that any hit could bring a company down.
Since 9/11 more and more business flyers have started driving instead of flying because of new added constraints. This might just be the final blow that really kills short haul flights inside the US. |
