i'd wager john askew's 'live as ing ' was done by him as well (john, not desyn)

I'm sure it was :p

There's plenty of mixed cds that are actually mixed live. But the bigger, more commerical ones, nope sorry. And to Subtle, no it doesn't matter. I'm not saying it does, but don't judge how a good a dj is simply by the cds they put out as that is not an accurate represntation as to what they'll sound like in a club. Oakenfold is a prime example.

Jan, not all his live sets have mixing!

Oakenfold has never been a technically skilled mixer, he just played tunes that people loved enough to let him get away with it. I've yet to hear a liveset from him where he mixes well consistently.

What made oakey great was his track selection and his knack for picking the perfect track for the moment. His ability to read the crowd and drop massive tracks that nobody had heard of is what made him great.

What made him suck is his Cocaine addiction.

saw him new years in a big party in montreal. probably the worst set iv heard live.... his mixing was off everytime..... and he would leave the booth.... and then come back to mix rly quickly and then he would leave again.

i must admit i liked when he played traffic because i had never heard it live.

Yet another reason I love Desyn. As if I need more right now.

On a side note, speaking of mixes, when are you gonna finish up your next set??? :p

lol I have no idea. I'm moving into an apt with my mates in a few days, will be sometime before I have everything set up again. Plus my cdj is at Clovis's place, so my set would have to be all vinyl...which I guess wouldn't be too bad :p

meh, you could just wander over there and do another back2back session (recorded of course) :p

didn't he used to pre-record a mix and stick it in the cdj and pretend to mix? what i heard, until he got caught of course...also he's probably on coke.

the 'bigger, more commercial' series i'm most dubious over is ISOS; if they were done by an engineer then it must have been an incredibly shrewd one, as they sound just like tiesto livesets with the same kind of errors & rough mixing in places..

Oakenfolds sets from mid to late 90s are pure gold though.
Some are technical too. ;)
Especially the goa stuff! Amazing ing music!!
He just took another direction musically. He is older now... lets not forget that...
sleepydragon
he might have been good in the past but doesnt mean we should worship him hes wank now.
He might have changed musical direction but its not even like he makes any good songs no matter what he does.
