Beefy K,
I think Kingston is a great venue for a massive. You could potentially attract EDM lovers from Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto.
The thing is, it has to be worthwhile for people to make the commute. You gotta understand that we get big names on a weekly basis so Kingston has to offer something different.
Perhaps an outdoor event? I don't know of any venue in Kingston that can hold a massive indoors. Maybe a hockey arena?
Anyways, maybe you should start with baby steps, like you said. Start by promoting some parties with local DJ's and work your way up from there. And remember to promote, promote, promote!!!
Good Luck :D
P.S. I love Grizzley's ;) |
Wow, you just summed up everything i was thinking and should have said before!! Thanks habsfan!! |

As i mentioned before, the reason i want to throw this is because we want to capatalize on an increasing population of electronica appreciators in Kingston. The core of the appreciators are mainly queens students that haven;t been properly exposed and think that electronica is 'Call on me S**t'. My housemate has decks and always spins at our place, EVERYONE that i invite over to listen fall in love (he has amazing track selection along with great mixing skills).
So the point of the blurb is that i have been tracking the growing interest and beleive that it would work.
Goatface ball is a Formal Party that we throw for charity every year in march, We always sell out. I brought one of my buddies to spin and people showed interest. Even the hardcore hip hoppers.
As for teh venue. i can't ask for too much out of them. Baby steps. |
Well myself and some of my freinds held parties in good ole K-Town back in the day and I mean 2000-2001 and the most we got out was around 600ppl and that was huge for this town. The E crazy has worn down so to speak and it is no where near as popular as it was back then when it took off. I would say your chances of a sucessful pary eg. make money for the charity is below zero unfortunately. We charged $20. Good luck to you my friend but it is a tough go in this town. |

I drove from Waterloo to Kingston for Astral Projection. The party lost thousands of dollars. Don't do it.
It can be a fun time but kingston can't support big names yet. |

anyone remember the forums on www.kingstonraves.com or something back then. they had that club on princess street that was near the 7-11. that's where astral projection played no?
anyway, they only way i could see a big name come and not have a deficit is through some sort of charity event.
ie. tiesto and dance4life.com.
since dance4life is doing stuff through school's throughout the school anyway. |

Was that that place on Bath at Portsmouth? I thought that was an all ages bar. Which I thought was strange, cuz everyone in my highschool was in AJs when we were 17. |

oh yea Goatface was at the Portsmouth Harbour. Great Venue. Apparently they have a 2000 person capacity in the lower level there.
hmmmmmm.....
the owner DOES love us for the party we threw at this place in march. maybe we can throw an even BIGGER one. |

We had some good times there !! The most packed we ever saw it was 20 poeple tops, LOL.
The problem with Kingston is you can drive to either Ottawa, Montreal or Toronro in 2-3 hours. People dont mind the drive to go to parties, it even gets them outta her for a while ! |
