Recommendations of where to stay in Cuba?!

So hubby and I are finally planning our first real vacation with our 2 year old son. He loves the beach/water so we were thinking about going to Cuba in late October/Early November. We are open to other places in the Caribbean too if it's a better deal and more family friendly without being overly "family-ish". (there's a fine line for me between great for kids and just plain tacky)

Since many of you have probably been I would appreciate if you guys could give me advice on where to stay, best beaches, best places to eat...etc

Thanks!

but in all seriousness. my coworker went with his little son so I will ask him when he gets in where they went. he wouldn't have done some cheesy family thing either.

Playa Caya Coco is good, I was at Villa Caya Coco I think, really nice and relaxed place

If you head to Cuba, the best beach is definitely Varadero. The Sandals are nice resorts, as is the Breezes and the Barcelo Solymar.

My boyfriend and I actually just came back from Cuba last week, we booked with itravel2000.com. If you are looking to go for an all inclusive I suggest staying in Santa Clara and the Melia Cayo Santa Maria. It's a 5 star hotel...the rooms are super clean, the food is decent (but I guess you're not really going for the food) and the staff were friendly. The beach is a private 10 or 11 km stretch of nothing but white sand and tourquoise water. There are 2 huge pools, one with an aqua bar and a kids pool as well, but there wasn't really anyone in it when we were there, the children were in the larger pools with their parents.

I honestly have nothing but good things to say about our time there. They have activities on the resort, i.e., dancing lessons, exercise classes, non-motorized water sports, etc... There are activities off of the resort as well (for reasonable prices), i.e., snorkeling, catamaran's, jet skiing, jeep trips, a 2 day trip to Havana, etc...

I don't know how to post pics on here, but if I could I would share some of them with you so you could get a better idea.

I'm sure that there are many nice places all over, but this is the only one I've been too and I had a really fantastic time; there was a real mix of people, young couples, families, etc... If you want to check it out you can at www.solmelia.com (oh and sign up for the MaS rewards too...they give you a few extras, i.e., keeping your room longer on the date of departure, a bottle of rum in your room upon arrival, etc... You just have to email them your account number before you go; this is on the same website)

Well, I hope you have a super time wherever you decide to go...just make sure you keep you sunscreen around...man that sun is hot!!!

So I asked my coworker and he doesn't remember the name of the actual resort that he stayed at (he will ask his wife) but he did suggest to look very carefully at the age of the resort (newer the better, they don't have too much money to renovate), and because you have a child try to stay close to airport, sometimes the rides to the resorts can get tiresome on your little one.

also, read carefully all the vacation blogs and reviews once you pick you places because some of them may reveal ty food or service so obviously stay away from ones that get reviews. the internet is a wonderful thing for the tourists. you don't have to go to places blindly anymore.

The resort I suggested (Melia Cayo Santa Maria) is about an hour and a half from the airport (there are shuttle buses to take you straight there), but there were many children on board and they seemed to be fine...no screaming bloody murder :)

The Melia Cayo Santa Maria was built in 2003...so it is fairly new and extremely clean. The pictures on the website are very accurate.

Go to Santa Clara, its nice. Rio de Oro in Holguin is probably one of the best resorts in the whole country. Having gone to Cuba several times, I'd say stay away from Varadero. You have to tip there more than anywhere else, and its not as family-friendly as some of the other places.
