Haha. That's too bad then. I've heard really good things about it.

prepare to be disappointed... unless you've never been to other clubs before, that's the only way i could see someone being happy with avalon

avalon is def my top club. The only bad thing i could see is the 2am shut down, which has nothing to do with the club and maybe lasers(they only have them for special events). DJs, effects, sound , big dancefloor, dancers, nice bars, high sealings its got everything a club needs.
when u say avalon is bad, at least say why :)

avalon is horrible compaired to a few years ago

I'd say it really depends on the night (as someone who's been going for 4 years now)... It was better, but as famous DJs become more mainstream, you end up with much more guido on a night when a big name is in town. On those nights, its kinda annoying, but then again, EVERY club is like that now, Crobar included! However, on nights like for example tonight (Blank & Jones) it won't be too crowded and should be a good amt of ppl there for the music so on a night like this, or Above & Beyond, or something like that kind of an act, its a good place to be. Lights are nice, sound system is very decent, and it still closes at 2 am lol :(

So it all depends on the night is what I'd say

Doesn't sound too bad, except the 2am close, but that's normal for Boston.

whatever its current shortcomings, avalon is still a top club.

They sometimes have lasers? I havent seen lasers in Avalon in years, and I usually see about 10 DJ's a year there. Not to mention a few concerts.

Ill be there for Above & Beyond, Armin, Ferry, BT Afterparty(Axis)...
Also checking out Evanescence and Imogen Heap there this fall.

Not a Cox fan, and Markus......he left such a bad taste in my mouth down at Room 960 in hartford this summer, I dont know if I can ever see him again. Still I might listen to GDJBC every now and again.

I agree about guidos, and other misfits, last time I was there, some militant dykes totally drunk, decided that in lieu of dancing, they would pseudo mosh, and they almost knocked my wife over. I tried to back them up and they wanted to fight me. Every bit of my body wanted to cold clock a few of them into next week, but I couldnt hit a girl. Besides, my sister would kill me, she is lesbian, and I didnt want to get kicked out of Tiesto. I wish I had more friends with money that liked clubs, so we could have a table reserved, and I could hit up the dance floor periodically and in a spot of my choosing.

Anyways Im stoked about the lineup!!!! I just hope this time when ferry plays its not so loud. Armins on a roll lately, so consistently good...loved his last 2 sets in boston. And Above&Beyond, I know your GOOD FOR ME.

I think djy2g33 was refering to avalon's 8th birthday party w. deep dish, or half of deep dish when he was talking about the lasers.

As for avalon being a e club, it depends on the night. Its not what it was 3-4 yrs ago but nothing is. I know certain people ( i wont name names) really dispise avalon, not for the venue, but for the mgmt and the way they've handled things over the last couple of years. There are rumblings that some DJ's wont play here again because of that.

But I think that over all, avalon is a good club. It has all the essential elements (good sound, lights, space, setup, bouncers) but its the crowd that varies and the crowd depends on the DJ.

went to avalon to see tiesto this year making that the first time i've been back for 3 or 4 years. different atmosphere than it used to be, but i had a good time and i still think it has "all the essential elements" of a good club. imo definitely better than a ton of other clubs around the country.

Anyone been to Rise?
I am thinking of heading up when Eric Entrena spins.

i think avalon should have a laser from time to time like the one they had the last time dubfire was here...
