What you are doing now is taking a little percentage of artists and calling them "trance of today". Fortunetly there is a lot more to trance than just those artists.
actually, im taking a huuge percentage of trance artists of today, as many older artists doesnt make it anymore, especially new producers are making "uplifting" trance, which is generic, boring, predictable, and it gets released cause they manage to make a good production on it, Trance is so cheap nowadays, new producers sitting there with the new VEC soundsets and some synth presets from the same, the only thing they need to do is make the easiest chord progression ever and its done. and people just into trance are loving their tracks.

years ago people needed loads of money to buy equipment to make trance, which also means they were more dedicated in their work, while nowadays, anyone with a PC and some patience can make a track.

People should have had a license to produce music.

I can smell a softsynth by a mile.

I've always thought people overstate trance's "decline".

It's all sentimental and nostalgic.
Nothing is ever as good as the music you grew up with.

But ignoring the sentimental connection with "the good old days" I don't think trance is technically any worse now, things have just moved on and people have listened to so much trance that the magic has faded.

I'm sure 5 years from now, the people who have just started listening to trance today will be going on about how great trance was in 2006.

Oh god... trance in 2011.. God I hope somethings changed by then..

to the labels, trance that sells = good trance... trance that don't sell = bad trance.

only to the minority, like us (and probably another few hardcore trance lovers out there)... can tell between a good trance from a bad trance.

if you're asking me if trance is going down, i'll say no... not if there's a new genre out there that could take the whole world by storm. sounds like that's years to come innit? so stay cool fellow trance producers, we're here to stay :)

I'm sure it will have changed somewhat, and I'm sure we'll still all be saying it's even worse.
Can you imagine a revival?
I can't. What would it be like?

Technical quality is irrelevant - you love things for a while then the magic fades.
You get bored.
That's just life.

Exactly, I'll shoot myself if I keep hearing this same till 2011 xD

And it has become such "fetish" on the sound should sound perfect. Many tracks are so stiff and lacks in warmth!

That is so true. Most of the tracks now have no warmth in them like how they should. Production has become the main focus, which is great, but I don't see why sidechaining has become so popular lately in progressive trance. It's really starting to get annoying hearing the SAME production style over and over again. Why do they do it? To follow the trend is exactly the right answer. Everyone else is doing it so why not do it too right? Personally I just want the melodic aspect to come back. Melodies used to have feeling in them. Now the tracks are just blah.

To those saying "you get bored after a while" etc etc, I still predominantly listen to stuff from the 1999-2002 era, and still get shivers when I crank a tune like Second Wave, Never Look Back, Airwave, Carte Blanche and the like. Very few tracks released over the past couple of years grab me the way tunes in the style of the ones listed did and still do.

yeah totally.. those tracks never die.

Sheesh, all you people complaining about how trance has gone "downhill" really need to look at the broader picture, beyond the popular labels. A lot of tech, progressive, acid and psy trance producers continue to do new and interesting things with their music and still include room for uplifting melodies and entrancing rhythms. You should check out this thread this thread, if you don't think trance is doing well.

Personally, I think trance is fine, and will continue to find ways past the periods on uncreativity.

Yes, for nostalgic reasons, not because of the music itself!!

Tracks you grew up with and/or listened to in your early discovery of trance will ALWAYS have a spark for you, and you believe nothing else will ever be as good.
