NO! I disagree!

"Banging and more melodic trance, representing 'German Trance'" - I think that describes something like Tunnel Trance Force. NOT PvD. PvD's music is banging but "floaty"... it puts you in a state of stupor and hypnosis. I wouldn't call it melodic. A lot of it is very progressive.

As for 'Dutch Trance', well, sorry to say but Tiesto doesn't spin Dutch Trance anymore -- he did a few years back, but now he (to my great disappointment) has ventured into the "progressive" arena and become very boring. He spins like "Das Glockenspiel" and other NON-melodic crap that is extremely dull.

When I say 'Dutch Trance', I mean something like Armin - Communication, Dutchforce - Deadline, Veracoche - Carte Blanche, ...

progressive is no ing way boring OMG I hate it when people say this. :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip:
Progressive has so much value in his track, no climax, great synths, great overall.
listen to JAMES HOLDEN ess mix, omg if this is boring ....
You have to face that there is more than PVD uplifting trance, FACE IT !!!!
and give progressive a chance
BTW I like it when tiesto spins some progressive between.
Constant uplifting traxx isnt good too --> so some progressive tracks between them is very nice.
--> set building up with progressive and building to huge massive trancers is tha key !

das glockenspiel is a great track. there is nothing wrong with tiesto's playlist and dutch trance isn't the only trance out there and it certainly isn't the best trance out there. so what if he has gone a little progressive? people change. musical tastes change.

Well -- of course there's more to trance than epic anthems. And yes, if you play too much uplifting it may get boring. However, if there's too much prog it will be even MORE boring. I dislike progressive music not because I'm uneducated or ignorant, but just because I dislike it. Simple as that. If I come to a prime-time event I expect to hear some exciting soaring melodies. When I saw both Tiesto and PvD live I didn't hear that. What I did hear was the boring "Glockenspiel", apathetic "Rapture", some sleepy stuff by Timo Maas...

Anyhow I don't wanna change the subject :D
Point is, I wouldn't call PvD's music "melodic."
And don't flame me for 'Dutch Trance', because this phrase has come to mean something specific. Of course people in Holland write all kinds of Trance, but when people say "Dutch Trance" they have something specific in mind.

IMO German trance = PVD's trance. Perhaps his style is unique, but he's the famous German trance dj. Another point is what one understand as German trance. But that's my point of view.
As for Tunnel Trance, I don't especially like it.

Perhaps you're right, but that's the evolution in trance music. PVD don't spin the same music as 3 years before, and so does Tiesto. You don't like progressive style, but many people like. I haven't heared Tiesto @ DD 2002 yet, but I like his set at DD 2001. It's progressive.

Well... ive to agree with you here mate I also went for tiesto because he was playing somewhere here in Belgium.
He spinned stuff like iio rapture and .... (in other words not the Uplifting things you expect).
I also was dissapointed, only the second hour he was playing great tracks like airwave and stuff so I know what you mean man.
But I like progressive to, maybe not on a party but ... hehe ;)
M.A.R.K
Solid Sleep - Club Attack (PvD's TPOD Mix)
Paul van Dyk - Vega (Starcase Remix)

^^^ i don't know if i can give FULL credit to PvD for these gems since its either he remixed someone's track or someone remixed his track but if thats what PvD is about, then i dig it and i think it is melodic and mesmerizing.

EDIT - i think progressive sounds even better live in a club with a club sound system than at home. i can see why you won't like progressive listening at home but i can't figure how some of you aren't enjoying it when tiesto is spinning it live.
