CKLN Presents
DJ Shadow
with special guest Lateef The Truthspeaker

R.E.M.G. presents hip hop’s premier producer and DJ’s, DJ Shadow. Originating in California DJ Shadow is considered by many to be one of the most significant contributors to developing turntablism into what it is today. Choosing to experiment with and incorporate other genres such as funk, rock, jazz, and soul music into his work instead of working with just hip hop music he changed the genre of turntablism from the hip-hop dominated sound to the new generation that is credited in helping pioneer.

In 1996 DJ Shadow released his first full-length work, Endtroducing to enormous critical acclaim. 1998 brought DJ Shadow’s second release, Preemptive Strike. This album provided audiences with a compilation of tracks recorded by Shadow prior to the release of Endtroducing. Six years after the release of his first album, Shadow returned with the highly anticipated release of his third album, The Private Press. After staying relatively quiet in between the release of the albums, Shadow came out strong with this album, even releasing a promotional video for the track “Six Days”. The wait for this album was worth it since received much of the same raving reviews that the first album saw. The Private Press even peaked at #3 on the top electronic album charts, and “Six Days” became the #1 hit single on the Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles chart on Billboard.

Shadow’s influence on music has gone beyond the reach of just his solo work. Before his solo success, Shadow and his friends hosted a radio show on University of California with all-night living-room freestyle sessions. These radio shows and freestyle sessions eventually developed into Quannum Projects, headed by Shadow, his friends, Blackalicious (Gift of Gab & Chief Xcel) and Latyrx (Lyrics Born and Lateef The Truth Speaker). Since he has also produced tracks for Psyence Fiction, the debut album from U.N.K.L.E. and worked with artists such as Cut Chemist and Kool Keith.

Recently DJ Shadow has been busy performing on a tour that has taken him through parts of Asia and Europe as well as signing a deal with Universal Records. Under his new record label, Shadow will release The Outsider which features vocal contributions from artists like Keak Da Sneak, David Banner, Q-Tip, Phonte Coleman (Little Brother) and Lateef the Truthspeaker.

DJ Shadow will return into Toronto on Thursday October 12 to perform the incredible turntable skills that have launched him to stardom in the world of hip-hop.
