Annoyances you have with your programs? (pg. 3)

I'd love to see Cubase SX have a feature where an audio track could be set up as a sampler track - to get rid of the need for Battery, basically. The track would have an easy to use sample browser and also all the sample editing tools in battery/cubase integrated into the track. So (for example) you could easily import a snare, filter it, bitcrush it, create a snare-roll - all in this one sampler track with no vst fx except for verbs or flangers etc. For the snare-roll, volume curves would need to be in discrete steps for each hit (maybe this can already be done, I dunno?).
OH YEAH... a SIMPLE sampler... where u simply import a sample. and it plays like a MIDI.. that i have sought after a long time..

Reason

-no MIDI out
-limited range of synth sources
-no audio in

Only one stereo pair though. You can still get a stereo signal from each device into cubase, but it requires a workaround which is a pain in the ass.

i know flstudio pretty well by now

but i cant be arsed to learn to program all my synths, and i cant get better fast enough

( OS ME 17.9 )

Not being able to sign stuff to the velocity in the piano roll.

There's only one real annoyance I have with Cubase, which is that when you click on the timeline at the top of the arrangement to jog the track, the jog hotspot is about 2 pixels away from the hotspot for setting track start/end markers. I can't count how many times I've accidentally lost the markers and had to re-select the proper range. The worst part is that it's not an undoable action.

Steinberg needs to brush up on some of the fundamentals of UI design: user precision with the mouse is low, therefore targets should always be big and spaced as far apart as possible. Even when I don't mess up the markers, it's a pain trying to make sure I hit a "sweet spot" that's not even clearly marked.

As for all the talk about samplers, I'm just fine using Battery. I'd rather use a good 3rd-party drum sampler than have a ty integrated one within the sequencer. Samplers are, in general, very mature products; we really don't need a half-baked substitute.

For me, the FL Studio playlist is a VERY welcome part for structuring my song. I prefer to work with looped parts rather than having to draw my kicks for 8 min long bars (as with other sequencers)... Then again, it can have become a habbit since I have no experience with other sequencers.

You CAN assign stuff to the velocity in the piano roll for VSTi's, though admittedly it doesn't work fully for all plugins. For the Pro53 for example, you can easily hook up the filter to the velocity when you turn on the 'velocity' knob/LED.

What does bother me about FL is that it doesn't run on the two cores of my AMD X2... one of the very reasons I actually bought a dual core for.

For the rest, FL's got basically all I need in a sequencer :)

Actually, thats a limitation of FL. If you were crazy you could draw in 8 mins worth of kicks, otherwise you would draw a few kicks and loop it, similar to how FL works. The main advantage over FL is that you can have as many different patterns as you like on the same track.
..at least in Logic but I'm pretty sure Cubase et al. work the same way.

buzz has the same pattern sequencing method as fruity. I think it is actually very simple and flexible. I can't see it as a limitation in any possible way. On top of that I don't really understand you post either centra spike :toothless

Heh, that was a good larf.

As I mentioned earlier - samplers! I don't draw kicks for 8 minutes, I import it once into Battery, click 4 times on the drum sheet, and loop it as many times as necessary. Drawing in every kick would be ridiculous, yes, but nobody actually does that (I think).

FL's step sequencer is really just a simplified sampler.

Digi, you know about the cubase hotkeys 'P' and 'Shift+G' right?
