I really don't have a problem with Scooter "ripping off" other artists. I know they do and i still enjoy their music. I wouldn't mind even if they used elements previously used by other artists without permission, after all the idea that plagiarism is a crime is only based on the presumtion that intellectual property is justified in the first place.
And speaking of justified, like GrimReaper pointed out, all the man in the ice cream van nonsense are references to the KLF. Or how about:
"At the time when the justified ancients of Mu Mu ruled the world, we started to create a sound." :happy2: |

| quote: | | And the lyrics of Weekend weren't about an Ice Cream man as relating to M.I.K.E.? in any way but "respect to the man in the ice cream van" which was a shout referring to the KLF. |
it's reffering to the tune M.I.K.E vs JOHN OO FLEMMING "Ice Cream". I remember MIKE was furious with those words ! |

perhaps they would be ok if they were classified as remixes,
but scooter sells them as original songs tho, that's what gets me |
a bit off topic but it instanlty put blank and jones in my head with catch.. which was originally kosheen's. (and ferry's remix was better than B&J's imo) |

No, M.I.K.E. just probably wanted it to be put towards him but it wasn't. It was cleared by Scooter themselves some years ago that it was all about the KLF who were and still are an idol to them. "Respect to the man in the ice cream van" was targeted especially to Jimmy Cauty of the KLF who used to drive around in a real ice cream van, and was actually selling ice cream from it after their gigs and while not producing or ripping off other artists. I might sound like a fanboy (like i would care, LOL) but even if they do steal bits here and there, they don't mock the artists they've ripped off.. :haha: |

That is indeed off topic, that's nothing new. take tiesto and adagio for strings for example. Or maybe you want an even older example. How about the "popcorn" melody which was made by Gershon Kingsley in the 70'ies. That song has probably been remade a million times, but still, you don't see him getting much credit, do you?;) |

| I still can't hear the similarity between Out Of Out Lives and Trance-Atlantic. Seriously. |
