a few months ago a handicap women approached me and asked me for money, i had a $50 dollar bill and 0.30 cents at the time. so i have her the 30 cents and she told me to go change my $50 dollar bill to give her more money. i swear i wanted to take my 30 cents back from her.

i usually give some money to people who express their talents in order to get money for instance those who play the violin in the subway or something down those lines. if a bum is just sitting there asking people for money, i would not give him anything unless maybe if he's a post-war veteran.

We said we didn't have any change, but I said to her, "you are the most good looking homeless person I've ever seen". She got up and hugged me and I almost threw up.
haahahhhhhhhhhhaha serves me right for getting so plastered.

ahaha mona, that's awesome!! once this homeless guy stopped me as i was walking down st. george street, and you could tell he was thinking of something to say. so he was like, "OMG babe, those are the sexiest headphones i have ever seen in my life!!!"

it was weird. the thing is, my headphones were these 15 dollar earphones from future shop! :nervous:

Yes i would of. i usually only help out the nice homeless people though.
there was this one guy who was asking people for change and was always saying thank you have a good day and not asking in a rude or pissed off manner. i let him some change i had and went on my way.

they homeless who acted pissed off and rude i could care less about cause seemed like they've just given up.

This always comes down to "I work too hard for my money to give it away" v.s. "It's only a couple bucks, they need it more than me"

I think some people are scammers, addicts, lazy, etc...but there are also ones that really have been dealt a ty hand and need help, the tricky part is weeding through the bums to help the homeless.

And Jon, you didn't help the chick out, but you might have inadvertently saved someone from getting jacked by her for a couple bucks...so yeah you did the right thing.

I never give change or food, unless they are working to earn it. Hell, I don't care if you're sitting on the ground banging a plastic bucket in some form of a beat. Just get off your arse and do SOMETHING for a dollar. Anything. If you have the energy to beg, you have the energy to earn a dollar.

I do agree somewhat on your point, however you have to also factor in that a lot of these homeless people have mental problems.

- A lot of homeless people are mental, that is true.

- Some homeless people are to " proud " so to say , to check into shelters and what not.

- A lot of people say , " these homeless people should just get off thier lazy asses and get a job", but what they don't realize is that you need a permenant home adress in order to get a job, and inorder to get a place to live you need money, so it's a constant circle.

nope, that's more like 50/50 these days

most of these sketchbags are perfectly fit to go and work, but they choose to press us to give them change instead, cos by begging they can make more money per day

oh whoops lol just saw this

not all street beggars are homeless btw!

*edit* oh and also, I dunno how it's here, but back in my country beggers are mostly owned by some sort of a gang who make money out of them, so by giving money to ppl on a street you are basically making some scumbag rich... that's why I'm VERY reluctant to give money to anyone on a street

i try to help as much as i can...i woulda bought him a coffee, definately...

the other day, on the way to the subway station (dundas) coming home from orientation day at Rye, a homeless man asked me for money...he said anything would be fine as i dug into my pockets to find a lot of change, and thought, ah it, reached into my back pocket and handed him a 10...saw him 2 minutes later buying himself food with the money i gave him.

P.S. Dave The Chalk Master on Dundas and Victoria (or around there) that guy does some amazing stuff, if i ever walk by and see him i always throw him a tooney. such incredible artistry
