dunno...why on earth would you say without religion there would be no societies?
Are you one of those freaks that beleives without an ancient book (the bible) the world would be filled with vermon pillaging towns, raping women and killing everyone they want? Wow what an insult to human intelligence to suggest such a thing. We can split the atom, find the double helex, go to the moon and countless other advancements in life yet YOU feel we are too stupid of a species to know that stealing and killing are harmful to our enviroment unless we follow some sect? |

Yes sir ! I've just completed my masters in engineering. so i can say, i know a little bit of physics and math.
And I;ve read about all these great scientists and mathematicians from Newton, Descartes, Laplace down to Einstein, and maybe Richard Feynman (ofcourse not as great as these guys but one of the brightest minds of the 20th century)
And none of them really wanted to study physics or math just for the sake of it. All of them used these sciences as tools to unravel the mysteries of the universe. And all of them were profoundly philosophical.
The more I read about these people, the more I'm convinced that to understand the greatest of the mysteries, it is necessary to understand how the universe works on a fundamental level. And the only way to do that is to be a mathematical physicist !! |

We can split the atom. But the atom bomb can destroy this planet just as easily. Whether to use atomic science to generate energy or make a destructivce bomb is a moral choice and when morality is concerned, I really don't think science can be of any help. It is a tool to make things happen. But it's not a tool to mould our psychologies and determine what is good or what is not. You need some other system to do that and religion is just one such system. |

It's nice to see someone that study engineering with such affinity with this more philosophical field (and I'm talking about that link you once sent me as well, thanks for that :)). What kind of engineering (is this the proper term?) are you into? Electrical, mechanical,...? |
