| I find this whole situation depressing. Avalon was a great place at one point in time --- the setup itself is hard to beat (the whole limelight, former church thing). Moreover, parties there were always fun, albeit different from Crobar or (at that time) Spirit parties. The music was always great (they would book DJs that were very skilled, but fell short of the 'fame' mark to make it to cro') and the security was relaxed enough that it was easy to relax without the fear of being slammed into by a charging bouncer during a drug bust. Who cares about young and ugly crowds? That place was a lot of fun, and I shall mourn its passing. |

| What has happened to Avalon IS really sad, but it hasn't been Limelight or even a decent club in a long time. I would like to know if Avalon Boston or Hollywood has had any of the same issues. Is this strictly a New York problem? Maybe all they need is a change in management or ownership. I don't think all hope is lost for the venue. It's a New York landmark that has survived a lot of challenges. Any positive changes will take time though. |

Anyone who fights the politicians will most likely end up bankrupt and in the worst case deported like Peter Gatien. They purposely set out to make an example of him. There is enough dirt on the club owners that they know better than to fight back. The best they can hope for is to slip silently under the radar while the police go after other venues. |

You are aware that the government isn't a big fan of the club scene, right? EDM is associated with lots of drug use (and if you look around this board, you'll understand why). Yeah, it brings in tax dollars from sales, but sales go down after 4 since booze isn't sold, but they've still got to fund public protection for the increased population still out when places are open. Add to it all of the murders happening and it's not a good recipe.
People would be more upset if this were the first time this sort of thing happened, but it's not and it's been happening consistently every couple of years. |

yes obviously EDM is associated with drugs but what about the hip hop scene? or even rock/metal concerts? a lot of people do drugs in those scenes too, there is no reason for them to just have to focus on the club scene thats ridiculous, in fact there are plenty of other places besides the clubs in ny where drugs are being used and no one is sayin anythin about that, its simply all bs and excuses in my opinion.... |

The two ladies who were shot at Crobar were there on hiphop night. It's not just the EDM parties they're going after. In fact, as stated in a previous thread, security on W27th and W28th is even heavier on Thursday (hiphop night) than on the weekends, which are primarly EDM. |

I guess that's why J00f stopped playing there on a bi-monthly basis. I remeber those days when J00f was there like every other month. Marco V used to be there as well.
The last good party I saw there was D-nox & Beckers. Maybe it's the end of Avalon... |
