| quote: | | yes obviously EDM is associated with drugs but what about the hip hop scene? or even rock/metal concerts? a lot of people do drugs in those scenes too, there is no reason for them to just have to focus on the club scene thats ridiculous, in fact there are plenty of other places besides the clubs in ny where drugs are being used and no one is sayin anythin about that, its simply all bs and excuses in my opinion.... |
The hip-hop scene is, I'd say, increasing in popularity in the city. So I'll say just wait until K becomes a big deal in hip-hop clubs... it seems inevitable, and it'll cause the city a lot more problems than ppl rolling @ Cro' and Spirit. |

| I think they should try doing more events at the Roseland. Isn't that the biggest venue? |

hahaha are you sure those flyers aren't fake? Since when was Hpnotiq the new Courvoisier?
Anyway, it is sad and funny at the same time. I actually asked Ferry a couple years ago why he played at Avalon instead of Crobar, and he said it was his favorite venue in the city and why change something if it works? :( |

sad to say but the management from a couple years ago had a totally different mindset than the management from now.... management from 2 years ago would never think about bringing in hip hop on fridays.... having tony draper and johnny vicious on a friday was already a shot to their dignity that they decided they needed to do.... then, the hands changed, and it just got worse and worse.... i was in those offices for some time and i used to hear their plans for the coming few months.... stuff like "we need to get rid of the current hip hop Fridays party we have now... its too much of a wanna be ghetto tough guy crowd.... i got these guys from 105.1 that want to do something big... they mean business... theyve got the real deal as far as crowds are concerned, and they wont bring those wannabes, theyll bring the real thing".... stuff like that, and i just HADDA leave that club.... what club wants "the real thing" as far as hardcore hip hop crowds go? every move they took was the wrong move, and its so sad how the clubs ended up.... my friends actually went to Avalon the 19th of august and said the music was pretty bad, not as bad as they expected, but pretty bad.... and the crowd... no comment they said lol |

much respect to Sawicki or ne DJ who doesnt get caught up in the Jersey cheese scene but when he says tons of spots in nyc have gone down hill, there is no spot that has gone so downhill as Avalon, maybe Roxy too, but Avalon has gone from such an AMAZING electronic music venue... most of Crobar's lineup now used to be at Avalon on any given Friday or Saturday, it was THAT good and i remember that... and now its this...

| if there are so many promoters and dj's lurking these boards, why aren't there more underground parties being promoted? i'm sure it would be a welcome change from the apparent suckyness of avalon. |

| Update 9/13 Well, well karma is a biatch. I hear that the IRS has shut Avalon down until they come up with 125k. This should be interesting; greating timing considering this is the key weekend to relaunch any party. Guess if Steve has any aspirations of opening in Las Vegas he might actually have to pay this tax bill. LOL. |
