living at yonge/eg i've tried all 5 or 6 sushi restaurants around this intersection. sushi rock is below avg. all the places around here are avg at best. not impressed.

best sushi place i've been to is this one a bit south of yonge/finch, a few blocks south of that intersection on the SE corner with a wooden exterior. don't know the name since i just always just drop by if i'm driving by.

Sakura Island is definatly good, but I find Johns servings are small, and the price is not very reasonable. But I think he is the only actual Japaneese Itame in the tri cities. And his daughters are smokin cute ;)

Samura on Hespler Rd is again, excellent, with a large price tag, and Ive been there MANY times and have yet to get a freebie.

Id have to say before I discovered the all you can eat place down town, the best sushi place in the tri cities, was Nagano, on Hespler Rd, right across from the Home Depot, just off the 401. For price, quality, and generosity of freebies when you sit and dine in, they win over all in those catigories.

Theres another place I tried on Bleems right by Homer Watson, cant remember the name, but they also have excellent susuhi, but again, with a hefty price tag when you compare the serving size.

If you like sashimi, in the university plaza in the Loo, there is a small japaneese cuisine place called Lunch Box......you can order a plate of salmon sashimi, and it comes with salad, a few dumplings, all you can eat rice, and all you can eat miso soup for like 5 bux. If you want more salomon, just wink at him when he is preparing it, and he will toss in a good amount more for a few bux extra. Its super fresh and its a nice cheap alternative to going out to an actual sushi place. Its in the same unit as Board Zone near the end towards the Mongolian Grill.

Theres a hand full of other places in the Tri Cities I have tried, but wont recomend to anyone. That place on Northfeild that only has rolls, and that other place down town, thats UBER expencive with a limited menu, and a few other small places I cant think of right now.

Guide to KW area Japanese food right here.

Years ago when I first discovered the pleasure and experience of sushi, I stumbled upon this website, and have since used it to get the most out of every sushi experience Ive had.

Im sure alot of you, who even consider themselves sushi gurus, will gain some knowlege and history from this nicely written page.

Enjoy :)

That would be Taka...That's where I first tried sushi, however long ago it was...I echo Rob's sentiments...Personally prefer Sakura, but Taka gets bonus points for being closer to my house. :D
