It was implemented on At The Controls disc 2 fairly well and I didn't ever hear a whole barrage of complaints about it being on there. It's not a stand-alone track, it's really weak and there's nothing much to it. But if used as a short little build up and mashed with something else it can sound alright.

But the point is that it's being released as a standalone tune.

I can accept the fact that it's only a "beat tool" (albeit in my opinion a fairly one at that as well), but there's no way this should be getting a proper release.

You might have a point there.. Although I don't think it's , one or two 'fuller' (if you catch my drift) tracks might have appealed more to a lot of people. Drawback is that these tunes then wouldn't have gotten any attention at all, probably.

Lava Flow is kinda cool really.
Governing Sun Spots... This tune can turn out really good if someone remixed it or something like that. Yes.

Sun Spots is pretty , i like good minimal, but this is just all cluttered up, probably needs a good remix to beef it up.

Lava Flow is ok, might be good for an intro possibly.

Exactly. Rainborns Un-Sun Spots Remix.

Hm, so I am the first person here who really LOVES Sun Spots.
The sample cannot really tell much about that track. You should listen to it on "At the controls". Imo, it is not pointless at all, it is a very subtle piece of music, with a very strong bassline (which is not audible in the sample) - it is not that epic like "A break in the clouds", but when I first listened to it on Holden's Mix CD, I was really blown away by it.
And I refuse to accept that it is an unispired piece of minimal. Just listen to 25 Bitches, then you here something really uninspired. Of course, you can make a monster of a track using strong, monotoneously stompin' drums and a porno-voice, but it is very difficult to create something like that in a really minimal way like Holden does with Sun Spots.
#Edit: Forgot to mention: On musichead.de, they mixed up the samples, so if you listen to "Sun Spots", you hear "Lava Flow" indeed.

I guess you need to be doped up to understand a series of random notes and stutters.

Exactly. What's the big deal? It's no less interesting than the hundreds of other electro/minimal productions I've heard in the past year, and actually more appealing because of the dubby approach.
