[REVIEW] PVD @ Vanguard

Im going to make it short and sweet. It wasn't one of PVD's greatest sets. The first half was blah, then his second half he killed it! I'm a huge PVD (he's my #1), but last night it was like riding a roller coaster - it had its ups and downs. I kept getting complains from various TA's that his set was boring, but honestly I learned that us TA's are a bit too critical and too into it. I didn't care though, I had fun.
Yes, PVD was using the Xone 3D last night, and Clovis, he was finally using a controller. It looked like he was using the Trigger Finger. Oh and get this... He dropped ROYKSOPP - WHAT ELESE IS THERE (Trentemoller Remix).

:haha: posted at the same time.. let me deleate mine and add it here! :haha:
If there is a will there is a way.. last night I went down PVD with out a ticket in hopes that good Krama would be on my side. After about an hour and trying to talk to the "important people" Due to capastiy issues nothing was working. It did not matter who you where or what you did.
I was on my last hope and about to say forget it when Brian( I forgot your TA name) passed a little good Karma on. (thank you for that)
I am inside the vangard around 12:30 Jerry Bonham was on. Looking at the crowed at the Vangard I flet I was in a laundry mat. Maytags, Sears, whirlpools... you name it they where there.. but instead of feeging them quarters you feed them pills and watch them spin..swish wash swish wash.
I can not really give a reivew on Jerry's set since I missed pretty much the whole thing. Jesse told me that he kinda sucked before so I am glad I missed that part. I did enjoy the last half hour of it though
PVD takes over the decks. There is a bum rush to the front. There where so many people that I could not handle it. I need my space. Ben the awesome booty gard got me some space.
I used to be all excited to see PVD but lately I have been ho-hum about him. He plays great sets.. then he plays ok sets. Last night is set was not what I was expecting from the "# 1 dj in the world" His set was all over the place. He would play a great track (Life less ordinary) then play a crap track. Then play a Great track(Ferry Corsten-Junk(not my personal fave)) then back to zzzz track again. So many times where I would dance and then stop dance then stop. Even one of the securty gards in the front fell asleep!!
And if you are the "1 dj in the world" why on earth would you play the SAME TRACK TWICE?? Why.. Why would any Dj do that?? he played a track that had male vocals in it that said.. "I hate you I love you I hate you I love you" TWICE.
I was not feeling his set or the crackyness of the crowd. So I went outside for a bit and then went back inside for the last half hour. Still not feeling it.. then the leachy stare down guys came into play. ICK.
Also here is the Vangard with the best sound system in LA and I had to cover my ears a few times. I did not seem tuned at all for the night. It was to loud!
But I stuck it out untill the very end. I wanted my moneys worth.
I should have just went home last night to save the money. Oh well you live and you learn right.
I will post my picts soon |

The song is Kyau vs. Albert- Are You Fine and he probably played the brand new Markus Schulz mix (I played it on Edgar V night) and then played the Original.
Unless he played the same mix twice by accident?
(Wouldn't be able to tell you because we ended up working in the sudio all night and didn't make it over there)
Sounds like an interesting night though, washers and all! |

Yeah the sound was ear piercing.. I had to make emergency earplugs out of napkins.
It was great seeing everyone last night. I ran into so many people haven't seen in ages. Nice seeing you again Maribel and everyone one else.
Oh one last thing, what's up with the orgies going on last night? Man, it seemed like everyone was horny and getting their groove on. Except, this was not pretty. :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: |

Ah, wow.. yeah then it must have been the original.
I was thinking maybe he would've crossed over from Jerry with the Markus one and then played the trance one later during peak time. Then maybe it wouldn't be so bad. But the same mix... :nervous: Not sure how he managed to do that.. It's definitely not a common PVD mishap. :p

| i have to agree with the other posts on this thread. PVD's set was ho-hum at best. i kept waiting for him to give us the euphoric stuff and he didn't. i have some of his older lives sets from 2004 and he was playing a very different kind of set back then. much more melodic and uplifting. last night it was all about killing the base boosting the highs and then laying on the bass again. it just got so repetetive. oh btw i think circus is a much better club than vanguard. better ventilation, better sound and more diverse atmosphere with the three dance floors and the outside patio. who is playing the uplifting stuff nowadays? i enjoyed armin's set at spundae. |

| At least the cool thing is he will be playing again in November...so it will be good comparison. Very rare to see someone like PvD do a "residency" pair of dates in a short time like Sasha. |
