Weird, I've never seen Sasha use Serato anywhere or in anyway.
I think Ruben is right. Just look at Jonathan Peter's booth. |
LOL @ JP's booth
The only thing that PVD might be doing is running his left laptop to channel 1 and his right laptop to channel 4??? Totally useless if you ask me, but I can't imagine what else he is doing. Maybe it is less confusing to him that way :conf: :conf: :conf: |

don't know exactly what he dose up there, but one thing sure is, he is not playing the full track anymore, he splits the sound of the track using the ableton live and can control it manually using the mixer. well, he says it like "3D"..
-"and at heart of all of it is the 3D, which controls and syncs it all.
it's liberating - I'm constructing and creating tracks on the spot, and every performance is unique."-
definitely his sound last fri at vanguard was unique, and his performance was smooth~.
can't wait for his next gig at vanguard again...
hopefully he starts bymonthly residency at vanguard soon like he did it NYC...
Pure PvD Rocks!! |
THis is certain, he can loop parts on the fly, and create interesting mixes, but it is still primarily a DJ set. It is less of a live performance than a Zabiela set is. |

If PvD wants to show all his skill then why doesn't he just bump it up into a live PA show? He can bring in a 64 channel mixer, all the laptops he wants, keyboards, compressors, microphones, the whole nine yards. |

This is PvD, not Jonathan Peters. |

It's TA...everything with a grain of salt my friend.

it was really different from all other DJ |
Um....not really, for the most part it's still A->B as you would put it. I've read that Paul feels like people who come see his shows don't want him to go too overboard with the remixing and perfer to hear many tracks as they were made (but with the PvD touch). |

yes! he is simply still doing trackA--->trackB mixing, but 3D mixing means...(from what I guess...)
realese (track A)--> + vocal, beats or snare sound from (track X&Y) then to --->(track B)

What a load of crap. You know these Djs using this "advanced" equipment say they're creating new rmeixes or tracks live, but if you go back and hear the sets the mixed songs sound just like the singles.
All they do is add a few "whoooosh" effects or whatever and call it a remix. |

I guess that "whoooosh" effects is called "FILTER" effect in A&H mixer in this case.
yeah, that "whoooosh" effects is the commond sound effect to those DJ who using the A&H mixer, but DJ like "Cristian Smith or those of them who uses A&H mixer especially PvD uses as a "FADER" as well.
I guess this is waht they do when they use the FILTER as a fader. First, kill the FILTER on TRACK B channel, put up the TRACK B channel fader all the way up, and putting up the TRACK B sound little by little using the FILTER on TRACK B channel. I guess, it sounds clear by doing that.
I know there is DJ just using the 4 or 8 beats of filter effects with the normal track on also. It is definitely changing the original sound little bit, and they call it a remix, I guess. |

I guess you haven't been around the west coast forum very long so let me fill you in, LeSamourai is our resident troll/douche bag so feel free to tell him to shut the up or just ignore him :) |

Personally, the DJ is great and all, but it comes down to track selection for me, provided they have at least minimal beat match skills You can get all teh equipment you want, but still some of the most amazing mixes i have ever heard were just vynil. pvd's set from innercity 2001 had some amazing mixing and it was still then just vynil.
It's cool and all, but I mean, in reality it's not like taking DJing to the next level or anything. |

hehe, never did i think lip syncing would reach DJ's!!!!!
"ghost piano" anyone?
edit: although i must admit, i just bought a laptop to play some of my melodies live at my shows now. if PVD is doing that, or adding other melodies on top of his tracks that might be cool. but his reasoning for a&h'd midi inputs seems off to me. |
