for me, most of the time yes the people I am with (or not with) can make or break a night. But if the music is really really good, I can get by alright too. :P
and oh yeah yuris - I wasnt talking to you :P |

but that's just me.

It's not just you, I couldn't have said it better myself. I agree with the above quoted post 100%. |

i have also noticed i have started going home around 2-3 am instead of 2-3 pm.
much better for my health and sanity.
or maybe i'm just getting old. |

Comparitively to the rest of the MWTA crew, I'm an uber .
There was a period of about 5 years where I could drink, smoke, and/or eat whatever I wanted, stay up for days on end, and it wouldn't phase me. Now, I spend one night out until the next days afternoon and I'm ed for a week... :( |

oh, to reminisce on the deviant activities we were all up to 1 year ago... :toothless
i can't even remember the last time i went out to a "mega"-club.
only downside - i miss hangin' with the MWTA crew. |

| Hope there is no Global Gathering this year. That ruined Ultra soo soo much. I am a trancehead, and GG took alot. |

it's that it just doesn't impress me. i don't go to shows with massive expectations, but i would like a DJ make me turn my head around, kill the conversation i was just having and go "holy , did i just hear that"
rarely happens anymore. |
hey, I agree. For me, this typically only happens these days when its a track I LOVE - in any number of shapes or forms - and I'm not expecting to hear it. And I can pretty much name you each time this has happened this year:
1) when you dropped Cicada rmx of "World in my Eyes" at Narcisse :)
2) probably when Woolford dropped that remix of a classic Chicago house track - the name escapes me - one of my fav house tracks from back in the day
3) Benassi - "Proper Education" at Purenation...
4) Second Sun - their remix of "Another One Bites the Dust" (w/ Cedric Gervais)
Congrats Yuris, you are in some elite company on the Rubin list. Serious I know I already said this but when you dropped that track - oh it was just PERFECT. PERFECT timing, crowd-wise, time-wise, intoxication-wise, mood-wise, JUST PERFECT. That night became golden for me instantly, just after hearing the first two measures of that track. And you know how I feel about DM. I had you at #2 spot when I started writing this.. but as I was thinking about it more while writing, I realized the absolute best moment for me this year, was when you dropped Cicada rmx at Narcisse. I mean, that was my biggest "OMG!!!!!!" moment. Just don't let it get to your head, kthx. :)
Anyway, might be missing a couple on that list because I don't remember - but that's about it. But honestly, if I don't remember, that tells me something. Funny how they are all versions of old skool trax, eh? I guess Im old skool, lol.
BUT - that doesn't mean other DJ's (and the tracks they play) fall short. Just means there aren't any blatant STAND OUTS. I still have a good time at most other shows as long as the main formulas are there - the people, the vibe, comfortable environment, and the booze helps too but its not always required. And I have trouble staying anywhere if I don't like the music, at least in some way - that's for sure. It must at least be tolerable. ;p
I hear you on the small lounge thing. And I have no trouble understanding what you are talking about. I think I probably have a different "agenda" at this point. So my situation is really not comparable to yours. BUT when I initially asked in reference to "social interaction" at clubs - and whether that was from a business standpoint - my point was that I can disagree, a good number of times: the music of the night can be the top bullet on my list. Then there are nights when I don't remember the music, at all. Such as, the last Smartbar outing we had - and that was an amazing night. So I guess my point is I think it can go to the extreme in BOTH directions - for me at least. I can go somewhere where I don't know anybody but the music is AMAZING and I can have an AMAZING night. Or, I can go somewhere and not have any clue what music is playing but due to the people in attendance I have an AMAZING time. Booze is also a factor, lol..

I liked that place too, I look forward to going there again and seeing the next BB gig. Misha was really good too. |

I had one of those "Whoa what was that" moments at Lee. That made the whole night worth it.
I still enjoy crazy parties and debaucherous activites and staying out til Tuesday.
Maybe it's because I didn't have the opportunity to do those things for such a long time that I'm getting it out of my system. One of these weeks ... |

yeah I should say - there's been a good number of "whoa" moments this year.. unfortunately they are hard to remember when you don't know what the name of the song is.
I recall a couple of moments like that at Lee. |

Last year was great - but it wears you out to try to go out every night for a week there.
Next year, less parties, more beach is my rule. Danny Tenaglia @ Pawn Shop & Sander K @ Nikki were my favorites. Next year, if they bring some decent techno, I'm going - no missing out on Sven Vath, Loco, Tiefschwartz like I did last year.
Oh yeah and that guy named Hawtin. And I'm hoping for an Adam Beyer too. |
