Tie Domi RETIRES!!!! (pg. 2)

I'm the first to applaud the decisions to ditch Belfour and Domi...from a business standpoint, those were no-brainers, IMHO.

but Domi deserves some respect here.

Domi put in 10 years with the Leafs, which is more years than most players will play in the league period, nevermind consecutively for one team. The guy did not miss many games (unlike some of the fragile 'stars' out there) and even put up some respectable numbers on occassion...he at least wasn't as big a liability on the ice as most 'enforcers'.

factor in his community/charity work and I think the team would be stupid to not welcome him back into the organization in some capacity. He's popular and high profile...surely there is a role for him here.

Yes, it was wise for the Leafs to dump him from the roster...and it's probably time for him to retire...but have some respect, sheesh!

So what use was he?

Um....he was one of the fastest guys on the team...

Domi stayed on 1 team for 10 years because all he did was skate around and collect penalties pushing the other team around. He was in the top-5 highest paid people in the Leafs, yet he contributed virtually nothing. Despite that, he built up an incredible fanbase here in Toronto. If I was him, I wouldn't be looking to go anywhere else either.

I think he'll make a decent broadcaster, he's got the personality for it.

Definately glad he decided to hang up the skates instead of signing for some other team. The new NHL is definately not suited for him.

I just hope Belak doesn't replace Domi, rather have a guy like Ondrus who will chip in with a goal every now and then.

I don't respect anyone who shouldn't have been in the league from the first place & was then overpaid for doing nothing but getting penalties & cheapshotting ppl... damn right he was active in the community & he should have been even moreso since it was the community that kept buying Domi jerseys & chanting his name...which in turn kept the Leafs maintaining his useless employment.

I say good riddance to one of the NHL's truly all time great idiots.

what a useless player, what a goon.
good riddance to one of the dirtiest players to play the game.
Moral Hazard
Did anyone actually buy it when he stated there were other teams interested in him? Seriously, who would want him? He's 36, unskilled, no longer a physical presence, and a cancer in the dressing room. I couldn't be happier to see him gone not only from the Leafs but from hockey..... too bad TSN thought it would be a good idea to put him in the studio. Tie is a joke, had he spent the past 11 years anywhere but Toronto (where for some reason being a goon makes you a star player) he'd have been forgotten 5 years ago.

Now, all of that said, I don't doubt he's a nice guy who does some good things for local charities and for that he should be commended.
