Amber
If ever there was a long running on-again-off-again It Spot, it's Amber. While other Toronto nightspots attempt to lure in the city's nouveau cosmo crowd with theme nights and pricey cocktails, Amber's got a faithful following hooked because the lounge - along with owner Toufik Sarwa - is all heart.
But that heart, for first-timers arriving at Amber at near-capacity times, can turn to stone. The Yorkville ?ounge (running parallel to Old York Lane) has a smaller capacity than most other upscale lounges, and the regulars - your typical scenester types - will have an easier time getting the green light.
Yet, clubgoers just love to be where people much more fabulous than themselves are schmoozing and taking up that high-designed square-footage, preventing their own admittance, leaving them helplessly wishing themselves a way in. Amber maintains its 'see-and-be-seen spot' hip quotient by being fresh and alive, while other gems have fallen by the wayside.

So there's this restaurant on Yorkville avenue in Yorkville that blasts trance and prog into the streets (on it's patio). Every time I pass by a great new CD or DJ set is being played. Does anyone know this place? I keep forgetting to look at the name...I'm guessing maybe the place ahs some Russian owners or something cause I always see lots of Russian people there. |
Why don't you just go there to eat next time and look at the name! Haha |

On a related note: Under the Sun in Richmond Hill tends to play good trance whenever I've been there.
Also has a huge Russian crowd (owned by a Persian lady though, not a Russian) and a room for herbs and hashish.
And for those arguing, if you're from the ex-USSR countries you'd spot a Russian from a Ukrainian easy.
Oh and like the original post's restaurant, this one also has some pretty big prices. |
