Bush: The Iraq war "will look like just a comma....."

To be fair, here's the full statement from Bush's interview with Blitzer:
| quote: | BLITZER: Let's move on and talk a little bit about Iraq. Because this is a huge, huge issue, as you know, for the American public, a lot of concern that perhaps they are on the verge of a civil war, if not already a civil war…. We see these horrible bodies showing up, tortured, mutilation. The Shia and the Sunni, the Iranians apparently having a negative role. Of course, al Qaeda in Iraq is still operating.
BUSH: Yes, you see — you see it on TV, and that's the power of an enemy that is willing to kill innocent people. But there's also an unbelievable will and resiliency by the Iraqi people…. Admittedly, it seems like a decade ago. I like to tell people when the final history is written on Iraq, it will look like just a comma because there is — my point is, there's a strong will for democracy.

Ya know, I actually think I know what Bush means or tried to mean by this statement. Nevertheless, what a ing blatantly dismissal and ignorant thing to say.
Let's see if I can set this up correctly - best case scenario in Bushworld: Iraq becomes a true Democracy and allied with the U.S. and other democratic regions around the world. We did exactly what Bush wanted to accomplish in the region comma (at least 2700 American men and women died, 20,000 serious injuries {ya know, limbs blown off for good}, somewhere around 100,000 civilians killed overall, and the
threat of terrorism against Americans has become much worse /comma, but we won!
That's just peachy, ain't it? |

I think what he says in this statement says quite enough.
And forgive me for taking the context of our President's words and trying to understand his rationale for such context. That must be yet another strange concept - questioning and attempting to understand this President's rationale rather than blindly accept his authoritarianism, but I guess I just can't help myself..... |

I know this is going to sound corny, and despite the fact I'm not a fan of this whole war in Iraq I will say this:
Freedom isn't free. :clown: |

Neither is a McDonald's cheeseburger, but at least I know how much I need to pay for it, how far I need to drive to get it, how much it's going to gurgle my stomach along with that milkshake after I eat it, and I don't have to pretend to myself or anyone else that I'm eating a healthy lite fresh garden salad instead. |

ok you're comparing the ideals of freedom and democracy to a cheeseburger. i've seen HardcoreTrancer make better arguments. |

| Iraq will never have a democracy, and Iraq will never be an ally of US. Comma or no comma. |

This is the type of statement no one is able to make regardless of their position.
All I hope is that somehow the situation gets stable over there and that this whole mess wasn't in vain. |

I dont think Iraq will ever chose Democracy. My points stated a year back in this thread:
Link
If Bush thinks he can bring democracy to Iraq in his lifetime he is lunatic. |

...the American civil war certainly brought more pain than that, but you won't find too many people complaining about that today... |
