I dont even want to think about that happening. I assume its just a proposal. That takes time. I highly doubt they will do it. Afterhours are a huge thing on Fridays & Sat. Crosses fingers!! |
i can totally see space being somewhere else in miami in 2-3 years though. and that sucks. :( |

| the downtown club owners should team up and buy an out of the way corporate park and turn it into a new haven. |

Bottom line is that the city used the clubs and their owners to help build up a part of this city that was going nowhere fast. Now that the city has improved the area and also cashed in by generating revenues from taxes, etc that were levied on the clubs, they are about to sell out to the highest bidders - the condos.
The fact of the matter is a lot of those condo units will be purchased by out of towners, tourists, etc for their winter/vacation homes. Meanwhile people from Miami who put money into the clubs, who work in and rely on income from the clubs, and who party in the clubs (outsiders included) will all get ed because the condos paid off the right politicians so that tourists from Europe, sports and other stars/celebs looking for a vacation condo can have their way. Studies have already shown that they are building more condo units than we have people down here. Supply is gretaer than demand. So it's clear it's being done to cater to tourists, and they cannot have a bunch of clubbers running around now can they. They have no basis to complain because they knew the clubs were there when they started building the condos right there. Will they die if on Fridays and Saturdays we have afterhours??? If so, don't buy a condo here.
This is corruption at its peak. You think they told any of the club owners that they would be ed in a couple of years when they took their money??? Give me a break, I bet they guaranteed the opposite. When you watch the news and hear that millions of dollars are missing from different county and city programs here in Dade county you think nothing of it. Guess what, those same people are the ones that would sell their mothers to the condos C.O.D., and are now doing it. For example there was a low income home fund scandal where over $100 million that was supposed to go to low income housing resulted in little if anything being built, and when they went to the county/city and mayors they had no answers at all. If they will the poor, imagine what they will do to club owners and club-goers. No vaseline included.
The only options we have are to enjoy the 24-hour district while we have it, and let these politicians know how we feel. They will have to hold hearings before they do anything with the district, and voting against any commissioners, mayors, etc that want to or vote to get rid of the district is a simple way to get back at them.
On a side note, it would be fun to see LP go to war with the condo owners. I see construction delays in their future. :haha: |

actually i think i read recently that metro Miami has 2.4 million ppl, Tampa also has 2.4 million in its metro area |
Population of Dade County in 2006: 2.4 million
Population of Broward County in 2006: 1.8 million
Population of Palm Beach County in 2006: 1.3 million
Compared with
Hillsborough County in 2006: 1.2 million
Pinellas County in 2006: 950,000
Add in parts of Pasco and Hernando and you have a few more hundred thousand.
You do the math ;)
Now if you include Sarasota-Bradenton and the Lakeland area (redneck Polk county) in the metro Tampa area then you've got 3 million.
Anyway you look at it, South Florida has the most populated counties in the state (Dade is one of the most populated in the country). |

| the clubgoers in that area probably make the area SAFER than the cracked out bums living on the streets. get rid of them, not respectable citizens who like to party on the weekends. |

| Lewis will throw down the lawyers and he will domimate.Shut every in club in Miami and keep Space 24 hour liqour license i will be perfectly happy..There are a couple of really good clubs in Miami but anyone can tell you that the people is what makes the party, the people is what makes the music, its the reaction. When you wake up and you find yourself there with a thousand crazy people like u watching the sun rise while listening to your favorite dj.It doesnt get alot better. If the 24 hour liqour licence goes down so will Space and so will confrence. |

| ok so i spoke to my beverage law teacher at school, yes im a hospitality major, and hes a lawyer specializing in alcoholic licensing and things of that sort. it just so happens his firm represents space and goldrush. i asked him about the 24 hour zone and he told me he was at the city meeting where it was brought up. he mentioned it wouldnt be pretty and they could be facing a 3am closing time. when i asked about the relocation of the 24 hour zone he said its not likely but he didnt really elaborate on that. is it just me or does this look really bad for the nightlife here? |
