DONT SEND TEH LETTAR!!

Ok, now that that is out of our systems...

My very first landlord never gave me my rent reciepts. There was some bad that went down that resulted in my attempting to take him to court, however that fell through to insufficient evidence.

Anyway, needless to say, there is some animosity between myself and him, which makes matters a little more complicated.

I e-mailed him several times requesting my rent reciepts, to which he did not respond. I discovered later through his daughter that he had recieved and ignored them.

In desperate need of those reciepts (for my taxes/accountant,) I need to write him a formal letter requesting the reciepts.

It needs to sound official and something that he should not dismiss. It will not be a letter from me, but a letter in care of my accountant that shall be sent to a friends business address. This way it will add a little credence to the formality, and will avoid him knowing where I live, and that I am directly involved.

I am e at writing these types of things, so I was wondering if anyone who has some experience writing "formal business/very serious" letters could possibly write me one? PLEASE!

Don't send the letter!

Edit: Dammit, I really wish I had read your post before I posted this.

But in any event, at least now it's out of my system too. :p

How did you pay for the rent? If you paid by check, ask your bank to send banking statements, with a copy (front and back) of the checks you used, to pay your rent. However, if you paid by cash, you're screwed. I never pay in cash, unless it's required for payment. If so, I always demanded a receipt, upon payment. I had to pay by cash, when I rented a house on Long Island, and I made sure the receipt was written in front of me, before I paid my rent and security deposits.

Just use the words "My solicitor is requesting these receipts". You'll get them in a day or two, guaranteed :D

There are design templates readily available on the web for free, the contents of the letter you need to write yourself, although there are tips on what items you should include. Formality is key and remember if you are writing this as if your accountant is writing it, make sure you use proper reference or it'll sound juvenile.

ps-I get paid to write these sorta things -wink-wink-
