overall a fun night, pretty good crowd and good music all night long, even if it some of it wasnt very danceable...holden definitely dropped some trippier stuff, which was cool since burridge counteracted with the crazy thumpin basslines..dopplewhipper sounded wild on that system:eyespop:..the tag team was pretty awesome too, but i have to give it up to burridge towards the end, he seemed to be the main reason ppl kept dancing..left just before 630 and he didnt seem to be slowing down.
good seein the familiar faces, and meeting a handful of new ones..u girls(alisa and dani)had best not be forgetting my name now lolol:stongue:..be seein ya'll next time around:D |

| Thank god I wasn't there or I would of left because of no AC. I normally take 3 t-shirts with me to be able to change because I dance none-stop. |

Holden reaffirmed in m mind why no one should ever let him near a set of decks in a club. While he might be the most talented producer out there, a modern day Mozart, a prodigy, he doesn't know how to spin to a crowd. He spins awesome music to be enjoyed at an afterhours with all your friends. Music you listen to. Not music you dance to. He's out of place on a main floor at peak time and consist ently kills the vibe. thank god Lee was there to supervise towards the end of the night or it would have been a complete buzzkill. Holden was OK towards the end when Lee was probably telling him which records not to spin. |
Give Holden a break, aren't you bored of dancing to the same music?
Holden is a healthy alternative to all the b.s that's out there. In my most honest opinion, it's people like James who are still working very hard to keep the scene interesting and forward thinking (love that word). When he's playing he's usually trying new things with tracks, he's one of the few djs that mix in their own unique way.
10101 is brilliant! |

It was nice meeting you and DJ CJ. The Out of Analog boys were tearing up when we got there, though we only saw the first 20 mintues of their set before we ventured upstairs for Holden. Holden's set was kind of boring until the end, then Lee tore up. We left at 5-5:30 before the tag team even started, even though I was ready to go all morning. Sometimes things just don't work out as planned.
But yeah, tonight was doomed from the get-go, though. Music was good and it was nice seeing the usual suspects out. Everything else....I could have dealt without (or with if you know what i mean from discussing tonight) |
Great meeting you too Groundhog Boy ! Thanks for the kind words about our set :) Hope to see you out soon. I agree with you about Holden's set.. not exactly peak time material. Well mixed and classic to James Holden, but hard to get up and dance to when its hot and you're waiting for the energy of the night to pick up. Also agreed about Burridge .. he played well. I wish he would of started things off !
See you soon man :) |

got there around midnight - holden bored me - and then lee came on the decks and tore up the place - love him!! a couple of us got to chat with him when he standing in the corner during holden's set - just a great down-to-earth dude. somehow lost most of the TA's (which is usual for me) and got home around 10 pm on saturday :wtf:
loved it when lee dropped audion - mouth to mouth |

wow. ing wow.
first things first...burridge dropped one of the best sets i have heard this year...and quite possible top 15 i've ever heard in my life. yes, it was that amazing. it's almost futile to explain to someone who wasn't there (not absolutely, b/c if you know me, i don't around about this)...but, burridge absolutely rocked and grooved that mothering main room at pacha from 2:30 to 5:30 relentlessly, and another hour after that with holden.
upon entering the establishment around 1:15, holden was playing some compact discs in the main room. first things first...he's one smart cookie and one helluva producer. second...i did not agree with having holden playing before lee in the main room (in a perfect world, i wish craig richards was his partner for the night)...in any case...this night is not one to be remembered as the should haves...or the could haves....b/c it was what it was...simply amazing.
anywho, i sauntered down into the basement, and taimur and justin r were playing music i was definitely more agreeable with at that time of the night.
soon, i look at my watch as it reads 2:30. time for burridge. walking upstairs, and upon entering the cusp of the main room...i knew it. burridge was manning the booth...and from then on...it peaked until i figuratively creamed my jeans.
it makes me feel real good that a great guy and an equally great dj is now finally having the success he so deserves. he deserves it b/c he's worked his arse off.
(i'm going off on a tangent here...but this is a topic i was discussing with my mates before i headed out to party for the night. we see these successful people...whether they be ceo's of fortune 500 companies, celebrity chefs, or globe-trotting dj's, rockstars and mc's. i'm usually not one to speculate...however, i do believe that an overwhelming majority of the people only see this success (usually b/c that's when these successful people are most exposed), and are seriously misguided. it is almost natural, that we try to emulate these successful people...however, an overwhelming majority of the people do not understand the YEARS of harder-than-hard work and the passion and the drive necessary to accomplish what these idolized figures have accomplished...we are witnessing the fruit of their labor and love (*cue in squeezed - tempted*). specifically in the case with lee, if you're not familiar with his hong kong endeavors or the thai full moon parties, please look up his bio.)
burridge is in the midst of a tour that has been going on for several months and will continue to tour for another few months. we can all agree...that is not an easy task...but i truly know that the love and passion is pushing lee past all those security checkpoints and baggage carousels and bringing him to cities and towns that are witnessing and hearing great house music from a great dj.
alright...so back to the review. i'm going to go ahead and say it. it was twiloesque. one thing that shocked me was the number of people who have never been, or even have heard of twilo. are we that far removed? the pretty bartender on the main floor never heard of it. the old guy who was raving about club ice in vegas never heard of it (and i mention it b/c he was raving about the nitrous they've got out there, and i asked if he'd ever been to twilo). a number of other patrons had never heard of what in my mind is one of the most infamous nightclubs of my generation. regardless...during the night, the people in attendance were being educated...which is a two-way street. both mentor and student must work at it.
well, why was it twiloesque? because i finally got lost in the music. the music wasn't as loud, but it was sure as hell clean. because lee's set had a similar progression...a mission...a reason. what was missing however was mainly one thing: the whole, not caring about what other people are doing and not gawking...the whole dancing thing is missing, just letting go and moving. and in part, i'm going to have to say it's partly due to the lighting. listen, i'm not telling my man who's doing the lights how to do his job...i'm merely giving him a suggestion and he definitely should not take it the wrong way. the darker the room is, the less self-concious the people are going to be. that's the bottom line. the main floor was lit up like michael jordon's opponents. this is my third retelling of a pacha night, and the lights have still been a point of contention. mind you, i'm not a lighting guy myself...i'm just a patron...but damn, those ing strobe lights piss me off.
haha, funny...i said i wouldn't harp on the negatives, but really...it wasn't negative...just things i'm pointing out, because all of that pales in comparision to the clinic burridge displayed. he plays serious underground cuts, many of which were on vinyl. he constructed a set by programming, in my mind, perfectly. he's having a great time in the booth and that certainly feeds into the crowd as well.
so yeah...it was awesome...so good that i couldn't make it to dt and coxy...so good that burridge has gone from being in my top 5 dj list to number 1 or 2 (insert 'high-fidelity' joke here).
many thanks to basicnyc (www.basicnyc.com), made event (www.madeevent.com), and the pacha establishment for working hard in making this party happen.
until next time...hopefully on the 28th of october....

| Holden was eh, save for a few bombs he dropped. Only stayed for a bit of Lee's set, but he definitely had the crowd moving a lot more than Holden did. Good seeing everyone out as always. |

| Wow i want the drugs you were on ^^^^. The crowd was wretched until about 4:30. I will admit the music was definately on point for the majority of the night excluding holdens set. But for the small bit where i saw them tagging holden was destroying it. But again if thats the type of crowd that was at twilo i dont think id have liked twilo. In the late/mid 90's i was at raves in fields and strip malls and that sort of thing. I didnt do much clubbing until i was 21 in 2003 |

| Nice reviews. It sounds like Holden was a misfit with Burridge as I thought he would be. Maybe Burridge can somehow get Craig Richards over for one of the upcoming months for a Tyrant set with him. |
