Hey hey hey!
This is my first set since becoming a mod here on TA, and hopefully after hearing it you'll still think I deserve the position! Life has been really hectic with all the madness that ocurred this summer in Spain, and moving to Montreal and getting all my together. I found some time to create something for you guys and I'm really proud of it!
This set was made just weeks after I arrived here and kind of showcases my first feelings and impressions of this brilliant city's vibe! i tried to go for a lot of different types of nasty on here and start with some nice movin minimal, hit up some tech house and acid on the way, and finish up with a break and some HUGE techno/tech house on the tail end! I edited a LOT of the tunes to suit this mix, and i really like how it flows. Some old tunes, some new tunes, and some tunes. Expect to be groovin at the start and dancing by the end! Feedback appreciated as usual! Big ups to malek @ EDMM.ca for hosting this up and helping me introduce myself to Montreal!!
Cheers,
Greg

You know my impressions mate!
This set is killer! And I am not even one to listen to these genres.:p I especially loved Strobelight, gets me moving everytime!
The set flows very well, quick, but not much you can do about that in a 1hr set, haha.. The opening is great aswell.
This just took #1 on my fave sets from you. :disbelief |

Greg you did a really, really excellent job with this one. I'll try to pass on a bit more thorough review when I'm out of class, but for now just a few thoughts:
- Agree on the intro being trippy as even when you're not stoned. I had a two hour drive home at 6 this morning, and it was still dark when I left. In the distance ahead of me there was all sort of lightning hitting the ground, and somehow it just really seemed to work well aesthetically with the sounds of "Good Man."
- I really enjoyed the mix from "Blue Insect" into the Tocadisco remix; I haven't been the biggest Tocadisco fan as of late, but the combination of him and Sono really just turned out phenomenally. Really glad you turned me on to this tune.
- Warung Beach -> Let the Good Times Roll -> Schub = :eyes:
I'm really happy you chose to use the original mix of Warung Beach as it's been my clear favorite since it's release.
All in all you're doing a good job of maintaining the unique identity you've nurtured as a DJ. I think that while there has been a lot of variety in the sets you've put out over my time on here on TA, in the last few months it especially seems as though you're really embracing a unique personality as a DJ, and it's been exceptionally impressive to see as an outsider looking in. Your mixing has tightened up considerably in the last year (not that it was ever "bad," but the improvements are duly noted), and though I can't be sure exactly what you're doing on the decks, between your tracklistings and mixing style, you seem to take some chances that I haven't seen from others. Your sense of programming is perhaps unparalelled here on TA, and only rivaled by someone like Metatron (whose sets I constantly praise for programming).
You're fast rising in the ranks as one of my favorite TA DJ's Greg - This will remain on the ipod for a good long time. :) |

This was put together on Ableton Live 5- The only real use I made of ableton on this one was the looping and filter functions. I have no gear until the end of October, so I had nothing to mix on- It was all put together without a controller or monitors, just headphones and Live. I didn't do anything in Live I couldn't do with my TTs either.
Basically I would have mixed it on TTs if possible, but being gearless sucks.
Also, thanks for the MASSIVE review Rob! I can't believe there's more coming! :p |
