What do you think about Addy ? (pg. 6)

I think, for the most part, the handful of DJ's that make up the Toronto club circuit are happy just playing the local scene. Don't get me wrong, more than half of them couldn't mix a salad let alone put a clean set together, but for what they are doing, they do their job well. They're not out to bang out some over the top production, introduce new music and sounds, or even break out internationally. They play the tracks that people want to hear and usually to a crowd that isn't that involved or interested in the scene, but just want to party and get wasted. I think alot of us are assuming that the majority of people are going out to hear fresh music and really good DJ'ing skills, because honestly I'd say it's only about 25% that are. With the likes of Greg, Sean, Luke, Brad and even Nathan as of late...these are the guys that, in my opinion, are the only ones with true passion for music and the scene in Toronto...it's extremely rare to hear any of them play a duplicate set (give or take a few tracks) from the last time you heard them.

I 100% agee and like the way you said that......... I'm saying that it's the people who run these clubs that make the scene the way it is.....NOT CARING about new TUNES, about technical skill, etc.....and that is why TORONTO is so far behind with our scene. IT SUCKS compared to alot of other cities......and TRUTH BE TOLD......alot of these locals many of us TALK ABOUT would be BOOED off the stage for their lack of creativity as well as FRESH PROGRAMMING. They need to prove THEY do care and THEY STAY ON TOP OF THEIR GAME for the sake of THOSE 25% OF PEOPLE that PAY GOOD MONEY AND DO CARE!!! THERE ARE ALOT OF OTHER LOCALS IN TORONTO who WOULD appreciate the chances they got if there wasn't a MONOPOLY of DEEJAYS and they would SHOW THEM UP AS WELL. THEY REALLY JUST LOVE THE MUSIC........NOT THE FAME & FORTUNE......WHO GIVES A F*UCK ABOUT THAT......if you do....YOUR IN THIS FOR ALL THE WRONG REASONS!!! ACCEPT THE FACT THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOMEONE WHO IS BETTER!!! ALWAYS-----> It's a BIG CITY.....and an even BIGGER WORLD!!!

P.S. - I forgot to mention BRAD COPELAND as one of the DEEJAYS WHO HAS NOTHING TO PROVE......He got screwed because HE WOULDN'T PLAY CERTAIN TUNES.......A CLASSIC EXAMPLE.....WAY TO GO T.I.L.!!!

along the lines of what breen is saying,

we wonder why a dj plays very diffent here when we see them as compared to what we know them for.

reason being, they are told what they should spin based on what the promoter/club says the TO people like.

stanton warriors is the most recent example where i was personally told that they were told what to play as the "scene" is this way here and thats the only way to please us.

then we wonder why the TO scene is so far behind

I'd like to add Lee Osbourne and Kenny Glasgow in there too.

and you are one of them, right? :p

I know what you mean, though.

The Problem with the scene in Toronto is that there are too many people heavily supporting local djs! And i'm not saying that our local djs suck, not at all! But they just dont feel like doing next steps, they dont feel like going internationally, or innovate their skills. They feel too comfartable and loved here in Toronto. and this is what they want, stay here and enjoy themselves. nothing more, nothing less. and nothing WILL change, as long as there are lineups to the drink every saturday, as long as the majority of the crowd knows who Addy or Manzone and Strong are, but keeps screaming Deep Dish when Roger Sanchez is behind the decks  as long as there are ppl posting on the boards that Sydney Blu or Jelo are best djs in the world... as long as the photographers care more about capturing fake than the actual atmosphere and crazyness on the dancefloor...

i love how you take a little shot at him for making comments about local dj's in the scene, then you take a direct stab at your photog counterpart.

hilarious.

Unfortunately the scenes been like this here forever, and from a club owners point of view (with the exception of Sonic, BOA, Industry) why would they risk disturbing a time tested formula that is paying the bills week in and week out, as long as money's coming in it could be me up there turning the volume up and down for all they care...which I agree with you, it's not gonna help the scene advance, but it's also not gonna kill it, just let it stay the same as it always has.
