| Hey guys I need a good, free virus scanner that will effectively sort out a, more than likely, virus riddled PC. Thanks. |

Make sure you're using the Firefox web browser and also download Avast! Anti-virus. Great program that has constantly updated definition files and is free indefinately.
Use firefox to take about 90% of all virus's out of the equation (no more ActiveX Virii). |

Why? If the PC is already ed, surely the chances that installing something benign is going to further deeper it are slim? Maybe it won't be able to un it, but why not give it a go? |

chances are scanners will help spread it around outside of detecting it, also a really nifty old trick is once the file is detected the virus then copies itself to the AV scanners directory, keeps itself there while the other is being deleted. Thus goes the theory that AV scanners don't scan their own directories because hell, it's the application that is suppose to rid the computer of the virus so why scan itself =) |

If the PC is already compromised, then trying to install anti-virus on it is like trying to add gas to your car with the gas cap on.
If the virus is any good, it'll just shut it down anyways or just compromise the program you just tried to install.
Scan from online or a different physical source (Thumbdrive/CD/etc).
It's the only logical thing to do ;) |

that's like trying to give tylenol to a person with AIDS. But all hope is not lost.
Format the PC and then install a decent antivirus. And stop visiting pr0n websites :tongue3 |
