Torq autobeatmaching example - noobs don't quit practicing just yet :)

I just received M-Audio's Torq/Connectiv today, and have been putting it through it's paces. One touted feature is the ability to "auto-beatmatch" (auto-sync) tracks to a master tempo. It seems this function only works when using the software decks alone (without vinyl/cd control) , or using their "amputate" mode (using one physical vinyl/cd deck to control both software decks, one at a time switching back and forth).
I decided to try this out, and recorded a sample mix (using amputate mode). I did nothing to beatmatch the tracks, just cue'd, released the timecoded vinyl on the phrase, and let Torq do it's thing. I did mix them on my Xone at least :)
What you'll hear is the software correcting the mix constantly, and it's very noticeable. So if you can't already beatmatch well, don't think this will be your savior :) It does work with varying success on different tracks, in some cases very very well (actually perfect), and in other cases really poorly. It really doesn't seem to hold a candle to Ableton (which obviously requires a lot of prep work to get really perfect beatmatching).

The more I hear about the TORQ the better I like it.
I didn't hear a train wreck, so it did it's job in Auto Beat Matching IMHO.
I'm more old school.Using my ears, and watching the little black dots on the 1200 is standard. :D |

yes, but with some descent skills and a little bit of effort you can do it better :p |

That's what I'm saying... I CAN do it MUCH better by ear... I just don't want the sample to reflect badly on me :)

I did try this last night, used the timecode CD in one of my CDJ-1000's. It worked VERY well... The CDJ loop, hot cues, reverse, pitch ranges, pitch bends, all sounded exactly like using a CD.

torq was beatmatching not the user...obviously from the sample we know that the beatmatching is not very impressive... |

Well I just found out that there's a way to adjust the "tempo map" of a track, similar to the way that ableton does via warp markers. So this sample might be a bit premature to use in judging it's auto-sync capabilities.
I think the big thing to remember though, is that this feature is only available if you use the internal (software decks), or amputate mode (one real deck, one internal deck). So that limits it's use for those of us who want to spin with two TT's.
I did make a mix last night over an hour long, mixing just as I would with vinyl (aka, using my ears). The timecode is definately very accurate.
