There's times when you just have to do it for free, or for very low rates.
, if I got asked to open for Tiesto or PVD, I don't give a doing it for free. Think about that one. |

Chances are if you were being offered a spot to open for Pvd you be a somewhat established dj in the city... Established DJs get paid.
Barely any of you guys really see the buisness aspect of this industry. If you want to make your life djin, you need to pay the bills. , i wouldnt want to stand there and get paid nothing while paul got like 15Gs. What sort of reasoning is that? The music youd be playing would be the sound of you getting ed. |

You wont get to where you want to be with attitude like that.. there are dj's WAY more hungry than you are apperently.. which is cool because it makes more room for the guys that really want to get their name out.
Edit.. guys like you are in it for the wrong reasons, makes me laugh actually. |

i'm not in it for the wrong reasons, i love what i do, i wouldn't be doing it otherwise and anyone that's a working dj will tell you it's not an easy job and i still play free shows here and there
i've just been in the industry for a while now and know that there's money to be made, so i make it
i'm just trying to point out that no dj should have to play for free, there's money, ask for it
if you don't the promoter just puts it back in his pocket and chuckles while you sweat for free
don't cheapen our profession, we're worth more
you can't pay bills with good thoughts and warm feelings |

Get the out of here with like that. I work hard as a dj and love the music. I workd hard producing and DJing and never stop working to progress and promote my sound. I also work hard helping people in this forum and trying to make it the best I can. I've dedicated a LOT of time in here and I am pretty ing sure most users see that. Am i getting paid to mod this forum and help these people? I think not. I've played gigs for nothing and in countries and clubs you couldn't ing imagine. The fact of the martter is if you want to dedicate your life to something and work your hardest at it, you need money. money for tunes, equipment, food, a home, etc. Currently I have the resources to do this without needing to make a living off djing, but in the future... doubtful.
I'm not asking for the world here, but when you are in a club, every single person working for that club (in almost all circumstances) are making money, or at least enough money to cover costs. Promoters, bartenders, owners, bouncers etc.
I've done the free gig thing. I've done it a lot, and things are changing in my life- money is becoming not only necessary for excess expenses, but basic living.
:stongue:
You scoff at me for wanting compensation yet think nothing of the exorbitant fees charged by todays dj heroes.

It seems like you have made a name for yourself, and are able to make money djing, which is awsome!
Im actually talking about the dj's who are just getting into the business.. you have to make sacrifices early to make money in the future. |

but that's what i'm trying to tell you guys, you don't have to play for free and you shouldn't
if you're not comfortable asking for compensation for your time, you shouldn't be playing out |
