Veganism/Vegitarianism... WHY?!

Do not get me wrong. I have nothing against those who choose to eat only vegetables, or seeds (or organic seeds.. and so on). I'm just angry at how they HATE meat eaters.

Any vegans (or the lesser vegetarians) want to tell me why I should change the way I eat?

You guys claim it's wrong to eat what once lived, but plants are/were alive too as far as I'm concerned.

Human beings need to stop placing these arbitrary moral restrictions on themselves. What is the difference between me eating an animal that was slaughtered, and a pack of lions hunting down a zebra to eat it?

Also, if we weren't supposed to eat meat, then why is our body designed to be nourished by meat? We are omnivores, like many other creatures.

Also, what's this about Greenpeace protesting genetically altered food being sent to poor countries? WHAT THE IS WRONG WITH THEM?!

First the porn industry, and now vegetarianism. Ignorance makes one say the stupidest things, yes?

We're all ignorant, one way or another.

Another beef (lol) I have with them is how they feel like they are the pinnacle of "good" and are morally superior to us lowly carnivores.

Pisses me off sometimes.

Yes, but some people acknowledge their ignorance and learn to research before running their mouth.

I have NEVER met a vegetarian or veagan who has tried to convert me to the lifestyle. I also know a vegetarian who's wife is not, and he compensates by making his own meals at dinner time. The Vegetarians and vegans I know, have changed lifestyles for the betterment of themselves, not to create some dumbass statement. Stop lumping people into groups, you'll never be taken seriously.

You seriously need to read up on it, or actually have a deep concersation with a veg. in order to be running your mouth. I have alot veg. friends and they have ever once asked me to convert, or why I eat meat. They know I love meat, and I know they don't want to eat it...and that's that. We eat at the same resturaunt and I order chicken and pasta, and they order salad...they don't care. There are some who just think they rule the earth because they think they are doing a favour ...but IAH...let them be...and more meat for you! :D

Alright then, like I said, I had no problem with the vegetarian lifestyle. I generalized and I'm sorry.

Who DO I have a problem with then, because I know those people exist! Am I rambling again?

You have a problem with people who try to impose their own choices and values onto you. That's all. Most of us have a problem with them.

Greenpeace is a VERY extreme organization. Its not the "norm."

Otherwise, here's my answer:

From a friend of mine...
Being a vegetarian will reduce your impact on emissions to a greater extent than driving a hybrid. Agriculture (especially livestock) is energy, grain, and water intensive. It consumes scarce fresh water, food and energy that could be better used to alleviate poverty in the third world. OECD countries use 800 kg of grain indirectly, while low consuming countries use only 200 kg.

As someone who has just recently realized that she doesnt eat a whole lot of meat anyways, and decided to "go veggie," I have to say, I still eat fish. Fresh fish, that is. Not the kind thats farmed. Otherwise the argument would be the same. I do have a problem with the way we fish our oceans and lakes, though, and Im still trying to reason that in my mind.
