Microsoft Vista?

Is anyone here running on VISTA yet? how is it? is it filled with bugs or is it pretty smooth? I just want some info before I load it on my laptop.

Thanks.

Actually running it right now, RC1 build 5600.

It's pretty solid, and runs beautifully on my machine. Aero is hot. Flip3D is fun but pretty goddamn useless.

I approve.

And that would be?

are you still running a second OS or did you load Vista RC1 as your only /primary one? (I'm debating how much of my soul I should give to Vista for now)
Shudder
i heard that vista hogs up RAM... anyone confirm?

Athlon64 3200+, Winchester core
Asus K8V SE Deluxe, VIA KT800T northbridge chipset
1GB PC3200 DDR RAM
120GB Seagate SATA-150 HDD
20GB Fujitsu PATA-100 HDD (Vista installed here, drive slow as )
BFG GeForce 6800 GS OC video
SB Live! Value sound

And yeah, I'm running this as a secondary OS, I still use XP Pro installed on my 120GB drive as primary. However, I've been using Vista almost exclusively for about a week now. The last build I was on, 5472 would BSOD a lot, but this one is rock solid so far.

Yes it uses a lot of memory, but what power user doesn't have 1GB or more these days?

Hey Kev. It's been a while since we've talked. I hope you're doing well.
I'm running roughly 1.5 gigs of RAM on this laptop so I can't see it topping that out too easily but then if I threw Ableton back in additionally then I might start running into problems, if the RAM issue is true. Some of my stuff on Ableton getts my CPU usage hovering around 95% as it is!

Nice specs. You ever think of OC'ing that Winchester? They're supposed to be beasts in that department.

I haven't, actually. The last thing I overclocked was my old Thunderbird core Athlon 1400 on an MSI K7T-Turbo RAID mobo. The ****** would idle at 65 degrees C with a Globalwin FOP38 HSF, so I ran some dryer ducting out the window and overtop of the CPU/HSF with 2 Sunon 12cm fans in it - idled at 18 degrees after that. Mind you, this was the dead of winter.

Managed to get it up to 1600 flat, but anymore than that and she'd out. That was the absolute max for that core, I suppose.

Also, I have no idea how to even go about overclocking this thing. It's seriously been about 4 years since I last did that stuff. How does one do it these, days, FSB stuff or what?
