I'm thinking about moving.......

I have been considering moving to New York City. I've been there twice, and I like it a lot.

I figured I would ask people here since this site is pretty broad in terms of people's locations.

Any advice? (Serious comments only, please)

I hope you like high crime, high rent, high odor, high heat, high cold, high population density, high traffic, no nature, and minorities and weapons.

I'd say do it, if you have the means. Why not? I'm sure it would broaden your horizons as a person; help you experience a completely different culture.

If I was rich, I'd live in the city just to say I did it. Live without a car and walk everywhere or use public transportation. I'm sure it would make you a resourceful person.

Do it. Dooooooooooo it.

I realize any large metropolitan city would have that, but something about the place is intriguing to me. I want to move out there within a few months, and start a new life. I've basically seen everything the West Coast of the U.S. has to offer.

Worse than Landfill, NJ? Improbable!

NY is a lifestyle. You either love it or hate it. there's no in between. If you like 24x7 life, then you'll love nyc. Manhattan rox. you can always find what to do. NY is a big " you" with "Welcome" undertones. It absorbs you and you become it. You cannot live anywhere else afterwards. It sucks if you hate always hyper atmosphere, as there are only a handful of places to chill out, at one with nature. It's terrible place to raise a family (unless you're outside of nyc) but great place to hook up and party. You can always find something to do, something to watch, or somewhere to hang out. If you decided to sample every restaurant in NYC, I think it'd take you at least 30 years of every day eating out. Speaking of eating out - the place has probably the biggest concentration of hotties in one place in US. LA and all the pretend "entourage" and ing posers. In NYC if chick likes you, she'll bang you same night - not tell you she'll call you.

bottom line - I'd live there in a heartbeat if I wasn't an old, married fart with a kid.

oh, and side perk - you don't need a car if you live in the city. If you want to get out of the city, rent a car.

You're less than 6 hours from toronto, 4 hours from DC, 3 hours from Atlantic City, 1.5 hours from philly, etc. Oh, and 4 hours of drive from some of the best skiing/skateboarding on the east coast - Mt. Killington VT.
