Everytime I re-read this statement I hate it more. It's sooooooo l337ist :p
RJT
It may or may not be true, but I certainly have gone from loving the big clubs to liking smaller, more intimate parties a LOT more.

That's cool, and this may be directly related to the vibe at the bigger clubs in your city. Ame however, is not getting booked at the small intimate parties you are going to, they are getting booked at the BIG ******s. So you are essentially saying the same thing they are.

Actually they're playing one of Chicago's smaller clubs, Smartbar, well known locally for having some unreal nights.

Which is interesting, because I would've guessed they'd be booked at smaller events, at least based off of their style of music and how other similar artists are booked.

Although, I guess that's based a bit moreso off of my local scene.

Hopefully it helps change their mind and see the real scene then! And Also, Chicago has quite a history- I don't know how active or widespread it is there (I've heard varying reports), but I'm sure there's some hardcore heads over there.

I am just going by what I see about them in Places like London and Paris- I haven't actually seen their US tour schedule, I made an assumptions. Maybe they think small clubs in the US are too :p

Well duh! I did my IB Extended Essay on the History of House Music! :p I've just heard varying reports about how active it's current scene is and how many clubs are house vs non house etc.

lol, just pokin' at ya man.

The scene now is still there, though I wouldn't know heads from tails as to how to compare to say, ten years ago. There's plenty of good clubs (Vision, Corbar, Spybar, Soundbar, Smartbar - Lot's of places with bar, Narcisse, Virgin Lounge, etc.) that all have house/techno/trance DJ's most nights, and I guess I'd still say house is genre #1.

Loads of massive locals :)

I don't know where they're playing in NYC, but I can almost guarantee it's not at one of the big clubs. I'm guessing it will be one of the smaller venues like Cielo, Sullivan Room, or Duvet, not megaclubs like Pacha or Crobar.

First, I think they should be more silent about the vibe in the US considering I don't think they've played here much. Second, just because the US exports a lot of DJs doesn't mean it's because we have to. The dance scene was a global circuit the last time I checked.

One of the main issues that we have in the US is dealing with police/government restrictions. There is a lot done in this country that severely impedes our ability to keep up with the scenes in other countries. The other issue is the culture, and I'm not talking DJ culture/club vibe. It's an overall problem, and we all know it.

That said, they should just stfu, because there's nothing more annoying than fighting against the mainstream crap that people are attempting to spoonfeed us, then being told by the people whose music we enjoy that our scene sucks. It's hard enough to be an EDM fan, even in big cities in America, and the last thing you want is the people who should be supporting you criticizing your efforts as much as the mainstream here does, but for a different reason.

By the way, I had seen this quote a few weeks ago. I think this is actually from the same interview as the ketamine music comment about minimal.

Great points here.

I heart you Greg
