Why offices makes you take drug tests even if your productivity hasn't go down. And if they find something, do they fire you? even if you are a A class worker with a "secret" (read: drugful) lifestyle

They are just trying to find out where to get the 'good ' and are doing it discreetly. If your test comes up positive they are just going to ask you to share the wealth, that's all.

the drug using employee is bad on many levels; Less eficient (sometimes), if caught, gives bad name to the company etc.

That would be an exception really. Too bad you got caught on the first try. But there's a distinct possibility that u'll continue popping pills after the first try. So, hey! nipped trouble right in the bud :p

thats what im trying to say, is unfait to fire someone over drugs if the productivity of the employee has not go down

Canada kicks ass... not only can they not fire you here for using drugs (believe it or not they have to offer you treatment at their cost.... if you don't accept the offer then they can fire you) but they can't even test you.

1 pill = get caught = unfortunate. An exeception.

But one pill usually is the beginning. So the company's gona see a progressive drop in productivity over the years if you indulge in this habit. Plus they have to pay for insurance if you get sick due to drugs etc. So they may decide to implement a zero tolerance policy and fire you right away.
