pffft actually working to match track tempos, how uncool :p
Actually iv used the 800 a few times too and i liked it, but the only drawback is the tempo incriment on the slider. I heard its 10% as aposed to much less on the 1000 making it harder to get and keep the mix tight.
Mind you, vinyl > all |

The increments are .05%, while the 1000s are .02, I believethe cdj 200s are also .02% yet lack the jog dial and scratch features (but include digital effects). Essentially anything under .1 is definetely enough to do the job right and the 800 has much cooler looping functions than the 1000 in my opinion.
the 800 mk2 was the best value on the market for a good cdj for ages. Pr enough to be used a big clubs and parties by big DJs, but not as deadly expensive as the 1000s. Solid product.
Like I said, If i had the cash, id snatch these in a second. |

you can change the pitch range
shorter range means better precision |

Last i checked, keeping a mix tight is not that big of a deal with the cdj 800s :p. Im sure with the 1000s u could set the tempo and go have a beer, but for the price difference (bettween the 1000 and the 800) i dont think its worth it. |

Some of us do it for the sport bud, we don't only get more of a rush from real mixing, but also feel more physically invovled, which actually does make a difference in a performance, at least to my knowledge.
As well as such, I'd like to have the liberty to have a cd thrown to me from the dancefloor or whatver, and have the ability to just just slippin it in a cdj and mix it. I can see such a scenario being a litle iffy on ableton, but I don't do ableton so you'd know.
I can't help to feel that ableton sets are more likely to be programmed, and that real dj sets are more likely to be spontaenous and random, even though I know that ablet0n blokes can do live acts. |

cdjs 800, as allied mentioned, increments/decrements by the .05%
If you've got a perfect beatmatch, afaik, it should last for at least a minute without adjustments.
Every dj has to make adjustments to the pitch, its a matter of how audible and discrete his efforts are as well as awareness as to a nudge; be it faster or slower. |

I'm on the CDJ800 bandwagon. I love my babies and when you connect them to a DJM400 the sky is the limit.
The Ableton stuff is respected too though. Choose your style. :)
I think that's all you need for starting off. I am looking forward to the dual CDJ1000 and my future DJM600 though. :P |
