get a Canon (any one).
stay away from Sony because they are always overpriced for what you get.
I would also stay away from FUJI and other brands that use xD memory cards or other semi-proprietary formats.

Without a doubt, Canon Powershot A series - a 620 or something like that
For style and compact, Canon Ixus. |

+1
I have the S2 and there isnt much of a difference. I love it because it competes with the digital slr's that cost 2 or 3 times the amount of the S2 or S3.
someone already mentioned www.dpreview.com but to reiterate, go there! |

Not likely.
Didn't they ask for a compact sized camera anyway? The S3 not something pocketable at all. |

Canon SD 600 or 700. If you cant afford these, any SD model is fantastic. The things are tanks, compact and have great quality.
If you've got some extra dough, get the SD900..........15 fps video recording at 1024 x 768 !!! |

I work part-time at a Best Buy here in Miami in the CAMERA dept. I highly recommend any of the Canon SD cameras that we currently sell (600, 630-->3 inch screen, 800IS). Don't bother with the SD 900...overpriced and the 800IS is a much better camera with image stabilization. That's 400 bucks. If you're looking for something a little cheaper but not all that much "older", go with the sd 600 (250 buck) or 630 (300 bucks) (same exact cameras except for the 2.5 vs 3 inch screens, respectively). DO NOT mess with any of the pocket sized Sonys (T, N or W series). Their shutter speed's are complete crap.
In summary, go with CANON. You won't regret it. |
