Those atheists alliances reminded me of the judean fronts in Life of Brian.

That's utter bull these days. They don't even come close to offering up any kind of objective point of view. Beyond that, the absolutely blatant corporate whoring for Blizzard and Nintendo seems to fly in the face of everything they stood for.

I remember South Park when they were actually creative enough to be considered sattire, now they just seem lazy.

Well to be honest I thought they were rather intelligent for attacking atheism in the manner that they did. I'll give you the fact that the Wii and Blizzare references were retarded however ...

At least the last time they did a show about a gaming system it was the Yokama Gamesphere...obvious refrence to gamecube but at least they didn't sell out completely and use the actual name.

That wasn't the last time. They did the Okama Gamesphere in season 5. Last season, Kenny had a PSP in the episode where they took on the Teri Schiavo situation.

RJT, I don't really see it as corporate whoring, especially the WoW episode. I thought they mocked the hell out of people who are really into the game. They take lots of things in pop culture and use it in their show and some of them happen to be products. In addition to the game systems, they've also incorporated Pokemon, anime, and Trapper Keepers

With the exception of Trapper Keeper, they didn't actually use brand names to mock those things - They created sattirical alternatives that were IMO a lot funnier.

Beyond that, in the WOW episode they ONLY lampooned players who had obvious problems with video game addiction, not the games core player demographic. They made Blizzard as a corporation look great by essentially demoing their product for half an hour, aligning themselves with a "hip" show like South Park, and seemingly showing Blizzard as looking down on their "loser" players as well. While that episode may have had its moments, the shear amount of corporate whoring for Blizzard was pretty sad, and I'm thinking the same about Nintendo and Wii right now - Especially so close to the systems release.

The PSP was by name, too.

I didn't quote that part of your post :p

:haha:

But you're right - And it was just as bad IMO. ;)

I just wonder how much cash they were given from Sony, Blizzard, and Nintendo to feature their products as opposed to creating obviously fake but sattirical products to get their point across.

It just seems to me that South Park has become, in a lot of ways, what it was initially set out to mock.

Wow, you certainly have a bristle of something in your ass RJT. Lets look at the two "sell-outs" over history:

First off, IMO, South Park has really transformed into a solid show since its beginning. It didn't really start out as a satire, but grew into one. So you gotta keep that in mind when examining how they have changed over time.

Here's a look at company useage in the series though:

Chinpokomon (Season 4)- Indirect reference. Clearly taking the piss out of the infatuations kids have today with nonsense Japanese kids toys/cultrue.

Trapper Keeper (Season 5)- Direct reference. Still, not really a satire (yes on terminator/sci-fi, but not on today's society).

Subway (Season 6)- Indirect reference. With the whole Jared thing, a mock on Subway's diet plan.

Simpsons (Season 6)- Directly reference. I don't think they mock the Simpson's here for poor quality as they show the Simpsons have come up with about every idea imagineable, in fact I think they actually ackowledge its long run and ability to come up with ideas.

Lord of the Rings (Season 6)- Direct reference. Once again, not mocking it really, just kinda showing what we all did as kids and paralleling it in a funny way with the story.

Queer Eye (Season 7)- Direct reference. Complete mock of the show.

Hooters (Season 7)- Indirect reference. Straight mock of the business.

The Passion of Christ (Season 8)- Direct reference. Heated mock of Gibson and his movie.

PSP (Season 9)- Direct reference. They clearly have a realy product here, and aren't even trying to mask, but they still poke fun at how its the greatest thing since sliced beard.

Wal-Mart (Season 9)- Show how its rise is inevitable, because consumers have no spine.

Toyota and Honda(Season 10)- Indirect reference (Toyonda). They basically say how great hybrid cars are, which they are, but mock the drivers for being pretentious pricks, which they are.

Family Guy (Season 10)- Direct reference. Blast of the show.

A Million Little Pieces (Season 10)- Indirect reference (A Million Little Fibers). Seem to side more with the author, showing how his lie still could teach valuable lessons, and it shouldn't matter what he was or wasn't.

Warcraft (Season 10)- Direct reference. Blast a large segment of the gamers and a number of the higher ups in the company except the top executive who really has no idea whats going on. So, yes. Mockery.

Nintendo Wii (Season 10)- Direct reference. They don't comment on it one way or the other really (as of this point, keep inmind its a two parter). It is really just an object to move the plot along.

So, you can clearly see the direct and inderect references to companies, games, movies, etc. are spread out relatively randomly over the course of the history of the show. Also, they don't necessarily "pick a bone" with all of these references. In a lot of cases, they mock the consumer, rather than the product itself. The mockery or praise of the references are done with such inconsitency, however, that it would be foolish too call them "sell-outs".

Also, if you have watched the show over time, you will have noticed how the show has started to try and add in more real elements. The music scores are hillarious rip-offs of what you would expect in Hollwood. The character's cloths and their appearance have become far more varied, often times alluding to Hollywood cliches (a panicked guy with messy hair and untucked shirt is one of my favorites). So it isn't that the show is selling-out, as you can see a rise in the frequency in the references, but instead that it is trying to mimick reality. This, of course, is inline with the show becoming increasingly satirical over time.

I'll have to side with Kush on this one. However, it's interesting to note that I read this thread and various arguments regarding selling-out before I caught the re-run of the episode last night. I thought it was kind of funny that, being more oriented towards the Wii, it was sponsored by Playstation 2 and Final Fantasy XII. :p

Wow. You really take this way too seriously. It's my opinion against yours, and nothing in yoru lengthy diatribe amounts to anything more than that.

Interestingly enough, the majority of episodes you listed wouuld rank pretty high in my "all time worst" South Park episodes list.
