such hostility...why does a day celebrating the worship of everything unholy and representing evil bring out the hate in people?
i say be happy trying to scare little kids so bad they piss their pants, and have fun choosing a stupid/funny costume and parading it around town only to spill lots and lots of beer on it....
see, jesus and the devil are friends, so it's okay to believe in halloween. :gsmile: |

Easy. Relate to her that Pope Boniface IV established an anniversary dedicated to the Virgin Mary and the martyrs when he consecrated the Pantheon on May 13, ... this Christian feast day was moved to November 1 from May 13 by Pope Gregory III in the eighth century in order to mark the dedication of the All Saints Chapel in Rome, making November 1 as All Saints Day and October 31 as All Hallows' Eve ... the evening before All Hallow's Day (All Saint's Day). Initially this change of date only applied to the diocese of Rome, but was extended to the rest of Western Christianity a century later by Pope Gregory IV in an effort to standardize liturgical worship. It was instituted by the Church to honor all the saints, known and unknown, and, according to Urban IV, to supply any deficiencies in the faithful's celebration of saints' feasts during the year. It's "coincidental" that there was a pagan holiday on this day (much like the "day Christ was born") but really it was the Christian adapataion that made the holiday popular.
After you say this, reaffirm that this is the reason why she has a small brain ... because things such as facts, when it comes to issues such as Halloween, don't agree with what she has going on in her brain. |

i am less and less a fan of halloween every year. i have major insecurities about dressing up for it. plus i have serious problems giving candy to kids when so many kids are fat already.
fortunately i live in a building that looks like a warehouse so none of the local kids thinks it is a residence anyway. i am really glad no one knocked on the door today because i didn't get out of bed until 7pm. i don't like my sleep to be disturbed. |

It's a Christian Anglo-Saxon festival- originally called All Hallows Eve - ie the evening before all saints day which was fixed at 1st November in AD 835.
In pre Anglo-Saxon times the Celts celebrated Samhein, an "end of summer" festival that included pagan rites.
It has never had anything to do with Satan or Satanic worship. Though I suppose fundamentalists have never let historical fact stand in the way of a good bible-bashing. |
