Rutgers football... (pg. 2)

While I agree that Rutgers has not really played anybody, they still will hang with Louisville on thursday night. I do not know if they have enough guns to pull it off but it should be a great game. With that being said the Metropolitan area is about to get their first taste of what big time college football is like. Having spent a few years on the field at Penn State I am pleased to see the hometown boys at RU get a chance to play for the first time in a true manic college football environment. It will do nothing but bolster recruiting and give the NJ kids a reason to stay home to play. Since many of the top players across the top conferences in Div. I are NJ kids, it would be awesome to see what could happen if more stayed at RU to play. While I agree they still have a ways to go before they can be considered legit, this is a HUGE step from where they once were. Dont forget this is the same university that used to get pounded on by teams like Howard and Navy, so if nothing else this season is a sign that things will be changing.
Although I am not a Rutgers fan (Fight on State!!!) it is a great thing to have this much excitement centering around college football in Jersey. Maybe someday folks here will root with the same passion as fans from the Big 10 and SEC
All that being said, I will be on the field in Piscataway on Thursday night, jumping on the bandwagon, hoping for RU to pull the nearly impossible upset. |

Rutgers just showed they can beat the teams they're supposed to beat. It's the first step into the long term rebuilding process to bring Rutgers football to respectability. Hopefully they'll be able to schedule good out of conference opponents for years to come. At the very least, they resume playing Notre Dame in 2010. |
addendum: If they pull a Barry Alvarez (former Wisconsin coach) or a Bill Snyder (former Kansas State coach) ,by consistently schedule pansies from I-AA schools for years to come, my respect for the program will quickly disappear |
