Borat movie sees exceptionally limited release...WTF?

There's only 1 theater within 100 miles of me showing the Borat movie this weekend, on top of which there are only two theaters in the entire city of Milwaukee showing it, and even worse, only 2 in the entire city of Chicago showing it.
I can't believe with such massive hype surrounding this movie, it appears to be seeing such a limited release.... Anyone else experiencing this in their area?

in manhattan its practically sold out everywhere!
i've gone to maybe 8-10 different theaters and its sold out from 8PM till midnight...I'll have to wait till next weekend I guess |

Same for the closest theater to us.
This just doesn't seem like great marketing - They've created an incredible amount of pre-screening demand, and on the off chance that the movie would flop, I'd have thought they'd want to capatalize on opening weekend as much as possible.... :conf:
Admittedly though, I know absolutely nothing about movie distribution... |

The movie has sparked a lot of controversey, i don't know much of distribution either but many of the managers that run the theater itself decide what movies they get and whats right for their city. I know here on the cape the manager of our theater didnt allow certain movies to show.
The movie has quite a lot of anti-semitism but all in good humour, many people are still offended by that and don't want trouble regarding their theater. |
