But the crowds? The crowds need to lighten up, learn how to have fun, and learn how to show enthusiasm.

The music at afterhours venues is good but the mainstream has gone to in recent years.

Less hip hop and more dance music... its a club for F sake!

+1

However, I would like to add, in most of the smaller venues I attend, I need slightly better sound systems....Can't hold a convo with the people around me, and my ears bleed the next day.

I think quite the opposite actually. For me, This is London was a breath of fresh air into this scene. System was a good club, but during the last year or so, it was really sketchy and dead on most nights.

Although for a true afterhours, balls to the wall party experience, nothing beats Guv or Sonic, This is London is good for more of a regular night. I only want to do balls to the wall parties every once in a while, not all the time. This is London is a good club to go to on a regular basis. They bring in good DJs every week, the crowd isn't sketchy and it's a beautiful club. That is why This is London is my favourite club right now.

at a club, during the techno headliner, who is playing a relative acid set, you ask a person "what type of techno are you into?" (who is dancing beside you).. and you get the response "i hate techno! it's too loud! i like this kind of house though!" (person resumes dancing to Dynamo City - One Night In Hackney).

ignorance is bliss?

opinion: the clubs are fine. the headliners/tunes are fine. the people are the problem.. either they are the epitome of elitist/genrelized snobs or just way out of the loop.

ignorance is bliss.

breaks scene exploded in 2005. instead of having to go to back rooms or smaller rooms to get your breaks fix now we have parties where breaks djs are headliners.

instead of waiting one or two months to hear big name dj now we have them twice in one weekend, sometimes going head to head in the same night at two different venues.

look who was here since new years. from the top of my head, freq nasty, freestylers, icey, smalltown dj's, crystal method, stanton warriors, greg j, afrika ing bambaataa and so on. i think only evil 9 missed us this year.

plus we have locals that people in other cities would kill to have. blc, d-monic, red turtle, robb g, phat conductor, dirtbike kid... list goes on and on, and all of them have gigs on a weekly basis (and those gigs are killer).

so what is this "education" that you speak of????

if you wanna say "they should bring dj's like general midi" or something like that, you have to understand that 95% of breakheads in toronto are leaning towards funky side or breakbeat. that or old school. people are getting what they want to and you dont screw up with the winning formula. i personally think that breaks is doing awesome here.

cw, we need bigger venues. there is much more people that wanna party all night than some 2-3 years ago so the lineups are longer and sometimes it gets really rammed inside of some clubs, its just not much fun. if you dont have space to bust a move, whats the point then??? i was always wondering if, lets say, digweed is coming to the guv complex, why would you have him play at the guv if you could put him in the koolhaus (if the koolhaus is empty that night, like it was on many occasions).

also, some venues are just pushing it with number of people inside. 200-300 hundred people less sounds much (moneywise) but cmon. lots of people are not going to some places just cause of that. when im out i wanna dance, i wanna drink, meet new people, pick up girls and so on. i dont wanna look for some corner where i can have some space and stay there for the whole night thinking ", its gonna take me at least 20 min to get to the washroom, 10 minutes to wait to take a piss, 20 minutes to go back and then somebody will take my corner. it, i think i can hold it in at least 4 more hours"

like jayx1 said, the crowd is different nowadays too but i have no problem with that whatsoever. people wanna have fun, some poeple's fun is dancing, some people's fun is flexing muscles. as long as there's no fighting, nobody should care. but i agree, poeple gotta lighten up a bit.

2001 - 2004

All genres have exploded and headliners are coming in non stop, regardless of the venue. Jungle and Breaks went sky rocketed with headliners, from rare LIVE PAs to 14 headliner event line up. Yes, the jungle scene is not at big as before, but the amount of headliners at Theory would equal to a total of one yr line up back then. Imagine Theory did an all ages massive event? We would need the CNE to fit all the ppl. Trance / Prog / House have been doing really well also, we've been getting all the headliners coming in for the past 4 yrs. Look at the all access events to small events at all the clubs. They've all been amazing.

Since System closed their doors last year, yes things have not been the same at all in TO. Friday nights was the back then, and even dating back even a longer time ago .... Industry Sat. The scene is amazing still, but the only thing that's missing is Friday night we can go out and have the same vibe and etc like System and Industry Sat. We can only cross our fingers and hope another legandary club will pop up in our scene before we all retire.

The Toronto Scene has become stagnant....its the same local DJs playing the same clubs night in and night out. Its the same recycled international talent year in and year out. Someone has to step up and take a chance....try something new.

That's only for true for big events if you ask me. Lots of the smaller events have good lesser known DJs. TiL has Jimmy van M and Audiofly! That's trying something new if you ask me.

I've always wanted to ask people this question and get insight from
people on a broader scale the question that comes off of so many
people's lips that I talk to:

How is the club scene in Toronto these days?

What do you think? Feedback here, because I'd really like to know
what everything thinks is good about the club scene, and what they
think is wrong with the club scene in Toronto. I ask this because
besides who I know, many club related people (owners, managers etc)
do read things on this site obviously so this is a great place to
leave this kind of feedback.

I'm pretty sure they can refer to party review threads for this info.
That's what they are isn't it.. reviews of the good and the bad ;)

I am definately starting to see some other talents being brought in and that is great....but if you take the International Talents out of the picture....its the same locat DJs playing every event....and thats not to say I don't enjoy these very talented DJs but I would like to see more of the up and comers get a chance to Spin on these nights.
