Californians will soon run this country...

the NEW speaker of the house nancy pelosi (d-ca) will likely appoint californian democrats--including my district's newly elected rep. mcnerney (d-pleasanton)--to all the top committees in the house.

i'm especially happy that rep. richard pombo (r-tracy) is no longer my representative and that he's being replaced by an engineer/wind energy expert on the powerful committee on resources.

pombo was the author of the bill that opened alaska's arctic wildlife refuge to oil drilling, opened the california coastline to unregulated oil-shale drilling, reduced federal taxes on oil companies from 12% to 1%, and was named one of the top ten recipients of oil lobby contributions in all of congress.

with the shift of power, i see congress beginning to restore this nation's committment to the environment and renewable energy instead of focusing on lining the energy companies' pockets for an energy policy.

in other news, ap is reporting democrats have seized the senate also

ya it's nice to see democrats in there BUT i don't think there is that big of a difference between them and republicans nowadays. also, our governor and president are still republican... :(

i don't think we'll see any significant changes in this country until we elect a party other than the 2 major players.

/my 2 cents

I like our govenor and think he's doing a good job. I don't think that the dem would have done much better.

I like Arnie too. I'm glad he won the election.

phil angelides had nothing going for him.

the governator is doing fine, party association has nothing to do with it.

I didn't even know who Arnold was running against. Even though Arnold is Republican, I don't think he and the president get along, well thats what I read from Yahoo news.

Well... in the day's of old when knights were bold. oops wrong story..

quote:

A two-party system is a form of party system where two major political parties dominate the voting in nearly all elections. As a result, all, or nearly all, elected offices end up being held by candidates endorsed by the two major parties. Coalition governments occur only rarely in two-party systems, though each party may internally look like a coalition.

Under a two-party system, one of two major parties typically holds a majority in the legislature (or a legislative house in a bicameral system), and is referred to as the Majority Party. The other major party is referred to as the Minority Party. The leader of the majority party may be referred to as the Majority Leader, assisted by the Majority Whip, and the leader of the major opposition party may be referred to as the Minority Leader, assisted by the Minority Whip.

you can thank our founding fathers for splitting us up...

guys i'm talking about the federal midterm elections in congress, not the state gubernatorial race :wtf:. the house speaker is much more powerful and influential than the governor of any state. she has the power of creating committees and assigning committee heads and dictates the order of day to day business in the house. knowing her politics, you'd better believe this makes a HUGE difference on how this country will be run. george bush has already switched his tone from 'shut up and obey' to 'let's bury the hatchet and start working together'. with both house and senate under democratic control, he knows his days of absolute latitude are over. he even sacrificed rumsfeld as a peace offering right after news landed that the gop lost the house.

as far as arnold is concerned, that race was over months ago. arnold having the bigger bank launched an attack ad campaign that angelides just couldn't keep up with. while avoiding any sort of debate on the issues, arnold distanced himself from any damage angelides could have inflicted. arnold campaigned on bipartisanship and centrism after his embarassing special election showed him hardliner politics would not work here. meanwhile angelides didn't even reach for the moderates. and you can't top a tall, tanned, musclebound action hero incumbant with a pale, gray, bookish bureaucrat and expect to win on the issues... not in this state :toothless
