02-03 996 Porsche TT vs 03-05 Acura NSX?

I plan on "moving on up" in a few months. I want to buy weekend/"fun" car and I've narrowed my choises to a 996TT or Acura NSX. The thing is, I use to have a 91 NSX, and when it comes to sport cars the reliability of the NSX cant be beat. then again a 02-03 Porsche TT has 415HP and if you pay a little more for the X-50 package you have 450HP

I was just curious if there are any 996 0r 993 TT (Twin Turbo) owners or those who have test driven the car who an give some input

Thank you:cool:

Go for the Porsche, Germans have wet dreams about them.

Dude I see porsches like every ten minutes out here, nsx's are also a bit common but not nearly as much. If you want some serious speed get a z06 or a viper or something. I have a friend selling an 04 black on black viper if youre interested...

I say go with the NSX man, it might have a 6 cyl engine, but the potential it has is enormous, also the handling is the best I've seen, the car feels very light and stable at high speeds, you'll be smoking ferrari's and porsche's when you take it to the track....Just my 2cents:happy2:

i dont know how a porsche can be compared with an nsx. i think an nsx is a joke comparing to the porsche. yes i know about nsx and their potential and reliability, but when u get a car like that, maintenance shouldnt worry u much as u should have it regularly maintained. ur not driving the car everyday. nsx is too old looking.

big boys drive a gallardo. :)

it doesnt matter if its rare or not, the nsx is an aging platform, i dont know any serious sports car enthusiets thst own one, except my friend doug. lets just say its not exactly street legal.

The NSX is considered a "supercar", but like someone said above, it's an aging platform (solid as that platform may be). A Turbo Porsche is something a lot of us would dream to have and believe me, that thing is fast as balls!

LOL! 290 BRAKE hp and a measly 220 lb-ft of torque is considered supercar? I think not. I'm sure it's considered a supercar in Japan as no Japanese Honda/Acura will come close to it but you seriously can't consider an NSX a supercar. Just because it has high exotic-esque aesthetic features for a Japanese import is far from being able to call it an exotic.

If an NSX is a supercar, an E39 M5 must be a super-race car and it's far from that!

Not directly bagging on you, I'm bagging on whoever you got your information from. If it is you that looks at an NSX as a supercar, then shame on you.

On topic - I don't see how you can be trying to make a decision between the two. You say that you want a reliable sports car and that the NSX can't be beat? A 996 Turbo or X50 both boast the 6 cylinder like the NSX but Porsche engines last a very long time. They're one of the most solid, power producing platforms money can buy. A 3.6 H6 that pushes more than 450hp? Why even think about the NSX that has a 3.2 6 banger and produces much lower numbers?

The clear choice is the 996, whether it be the Turbo or the X50.

EASY choice! :happy2:

I would choose the Porsche, but cars are a pretty personal choice. NSXes are nice but the interior looks dated IMO since they haven't changed much since they were introduced. It's a nice looking car, but it doesn't seem to look as up to date as the Porsche.

I don't know if the TT's are affected, but you may want to research the possibility of a rear main seal leak on the Porsche. I know some 996's have had this problem, but it may not affect the 4S and the TT. Do a Google search for "Porsche RMS leak" and you'll see a bunch of hits. If you do get the Porsche, and if there is a possibility for a RMS leak for your model, I would definitely get an extended warranty that covers it. If you develop a RMS leak, depending on how far out of spec the leak is, you may either need a new seal or a whole new engine which with labor won't be cheap.

both sick cars, but nothing beats the sound of a turbo spooling up... go with the porsche
