I used to go to bed anywhere between 2am and 5am during the week, and get up around 7:30am.

The past few months however I've been going to be between 12am and 1am and getting up around 7:30am. Being in 4th year and applying to professional schools I really can't afford to be getting only a few hours of sleep and running as a zombie all day.

I'm much more of a night hawk though. If I could I wouldn't be going to bed until 8am.

The amount of sleep you get doesn't matter as much as the consistency of your sleeping pattern. Yes, it's ideal to get from 6-8 hours a night, but it's even more ideal to go to bed and wake up at the roughly the same time every day/night.

It's all about keeping your circadian rhythms in check!

P.S. I go to sleep whenever all my homework is finished. :(

I wouldn't say that's completely true though. B/c I routinely went to bed at 4 or 5 in the morning and then wake up every day at 7:30. Gimmie 10 or so days and I would just be completely ruined and would have to sleep for 14 hours.

I think consitency is important, but so are the amount of hours. You need both.

i predict that in the future we won't have to sleep

i find it to be the biggest waste of time

Without structure, I am my own worst enemy. I hate working jobs that require you to get up in the morning and no matter how much sleep I get, I am ALWAYS tired. I know it's not healthy staying up until 4-5am, sometimes later, and waking up at 2-3pm but being a student allows you to do that. I've always preferred the freedom and "loose structure" of the student life as opposed to the coma inducing 9am-5pm career crap that I've had the last few summers. ugh!

What are you applying for Lisa?

Related to sleep, Graham told me that your body goes comatose after too many hours of sleep. (I mentioned I slept 14 hours in a row after my CZ trip.) Can anyone confirm this?

this is why I dream of (and am on my way to becoming) a professor. I can schedule my classes at 6pm instead of 9am and everyone will be happy!

serious questions for all us nighthawks though! Aside from partying and such, what the HELL do we all do from 1am to 6am? seriously.
