USA, Canada or London?

I'm currently considering my options for working overseas for a year or two. I always vowed to go back to Europe to work after my 2004 summer trip however now I'm thinking that perhaps I should go North America (Canada or USA) so I can travel around those parts seeing as I have yet to visit there (and hit up WMC whilst i'm there w00t).

The options are:

USA
Canada
London

So trusty COR, what advice have you? Is it easy to get a work visa in these places, cost of living, ease of finding work (I currently work as a business process analyst), etc?

If you're younger than 27 you should have no trouble getting into the UK. As for Canada and US, I have no idea.

If you already went to Europe, go somewhere new! I always wanted to go back to Europe too, because I had so much fun when I was there. However, the reason I was having so much fun is because I was travelling to new places and taking in so much new stuff. Keep exploring!!!

Yeah, but he said he already spent time in Europe, so I'm assuming that included London. Purely because he's Australian - It's like some weird Mecca for us. Only more expensive, and the food is worse.

I'd go Canada personally.

Although I am hoping to work in at least one of the three at some stage (a few years off yet)

A guy in the next office over did work in the US (St Jude's Hospital) for a couple of years and said that its not *that* good. Its all much more intense (work wise) over there apparently. I heard similar things from my supervisor too who has worked over there many years ago and is over there regularly in official roles.

Although I want to live in Europe, I would totally disagree you. There is more to Canada then just Toronto which you are learning by moving to Vancouver. I have personally travelled all across Canada and there is a lot to see and do here. It really just depends on what you are looking for. I personally love Montreal. It is a great city and there is tons to do there. You will find the same in Toronto as well. And there are many different cities that you can travel to throughout the country, plus the USA as well.

I would say Canada or London personally.

lol funny how the aussies replied to the thread.

From the sounds of things the US of A is good for visiting but not for working.

The age limit is now 30 for UK I believe. I'll be turning 28 in Jan.

Yes, I did visit London during my last trip and I found it to be a horrible city mainly due to the conversion between GBP and AUD, the miserable weather, and the equally miserable people (due to the miserable weather I'm guessing). However, as a place to work and as a base for travelling Europe I think I could survive.

Canada on the other hand - I haven't met anybody that's been over there that has had one bad thing to say about it, except for my friend's cousin who works as a waitress and gets all pay and relies solely on tips. I'd be looking to work in IT possibly, and perhaps get a job from here (Sydney) before I fly over to wherever I'm going. The other attraction is the people - generally laid back just like Aussies from experience.

Wish I had done this 10 years ago and had gone abroad to study!

canada, eh. You can club some seals, make fun of the mexico touchers, and london is full of hosers [/canuck]

depends what you want.

I can't speak for London, but with the US you will have a hell of a hard time getting a temporary green card. Also the europeans and people from overseas i have known who have managed to get one, suffer big time culture shock alot of the time. Its a great place depending on where you go, but sometimes it can be crazy how backwards it is.

As far as Canada goes, stick to one of the major cities. You do not want to be in some place in the middle of nowhere. There are many aussies who work here, esp in BC and the tourism industry.(i never realized how many Aussie skiers there were until a few years ago.)

Vancouver:A taste of Asia in North America
Toronto:A taste of the Usa in Canada
Montreal:A taste of Europe in North America.

just listing them this way to give you an idea of the style of city.
Toronto is the most boring one imo.

UK. it will be easier for you to work. i think you will have a hard time being able to work in a job you like in the US.
