I travel close to 100km each and every day in term of commuting, I don't take the 407 even though it would cut my travel time in nearly half...you don't see me bitching and complaining.

;)

$75 for plates (if i remember right)

Your rates here are high because you're young. See we charge premium based on risk... you are a greater risk then a 50 year old married woman. In Quebec everyone pays the same for liability coverage. So, while now you're paying more most people making the same move from Quebec to Ontario would come out ahead because they are being overcharged in Quebec.

The SAAQ is one of the best things we have over here.

It is coupled with a "no fault" system where no one can be sued in a civil court for damages made by an accident (even when one of the drivers was drunk:rolleyes:).

The SAAQ takes care of paying your salary for an unlimited period of time until you get 100% back to work, pays for all your bills for the time you're hospitalized, etc etc.

Basically it takes care of you from the accident until the time you return to a regular life pattern or if not get compensated for your disabilities.

Since everyone who drives has to be covered by the SAAQ, it cost less for everyone, it makes sense to "collectivize" something used by all.

It cost more in Ontario for car insurance, because your car insurer have to protect for civil liability which is taken care by the SAAQ thus our car insurance costing less.

SAAQ premiums differ depending on the number of demerit points (risk) and vehicle class(risk) not on age.

so I wanted to see what the difference would be, if you are older and you apply for insurance... so this is what I would pay if I were to have a car.

belairdirect = $1991
Per month that's $165.92*

&

RBC Insurance = $2235
Per month that's $186.25*

* The monthly price shown is for comparison purposes only. Your actual monthly payments may be higher or lower based on the deposit required and administrative service charges, if applicable, of each individual insurer.

Hey Jay, I' don't see where you're getting that $7 from.

I have one transponder that I use on both of my cars. Throughout the summer, depending on weather, I drive the Miata or the Accent. I haven't seen any account or transponder fee for more than $2. The Miata doesn't get driven much in the winter either.

Do you have both your cars merged onto one bill? They like to push and force merging on their customers, and push a transponder for each car, but I pushed back saying 'no, that would mean another transponder fee, and I don't need that. I got a rebuttal, but explained one is my summer car, the other is my winter car, then she shut up.

I'm curious as to how your account is set up with them.

HEY, I JUST REMEMBERED, THERE'S A TOTA WHO WORKS IN THEIR CALL CENTRE!!!

I'm pm'ing.

I hope that wasn't why they hung up on your Jay!;);)

actually the $7 is 2 charges of $3.50.. i got that confused in my moment of angst.

But everything is on one bill but it doesnt matter because they have now assigned licence plates to the actual transponder whereas before you could take it and use it in any car.

I used to use it when i rented cars so now they have lost that business. I also used to use it on company business in company cars and they have now lost that business as well.

All so (they figure) they can force everyone to pay thr $2 per month transponder fee.

Proof here is how greed gets you nowhere.

And the fact that they are still using their cameras when you use your transponder is even more proof of how bogus the non transponder fee is in the first place. if it was so costly to process a non transponder by using the cameras, how can the keep track of every single transaction to make sure the transponder matches to the licence plate?

Rubbish!
