I never ever listen to a single article written about raves in the Toronto Sun. For the most part they are so clueless its ridulous and even maddening.
However this one is about a specific pill going around.. Thuought I'd throw it out to ya all..

This Ecstasy can kill you
Cops: New version of drug deadly
By TOM GODFREY, TORONTO SUN
Toronto cops are warning young people about a deadly version of Ecstasy known as "death" that's beginning to show up at city raves and dance clubs.
"We have come across some of this drug recently," Det. Ian Briggs said. "We are having all the pills tested because not much is known about them."
Police also say Toronto is among the top five cities in North America for the use of Ecstasy.
The white or pink pills, sold as Ecstasy, contain PMA (paramethoxyamphetamine) and are responsible for the deaths of more than 12 people in the U.S., Austria, Denmark and Germany, police said.
They added that PMA contains a chemical that raises the body temperature to as high as 42C, which fries the users' nervous systems and causes bleeding of the brain and internal organs.
The drug causes muscle spasms, nausea, erratic eye movements and heightened visual stimulation.
Police said the pills have a Mitsubishi logo and are unusually thick with a "double-stacked" look.
Peel Police found 300 PMA pills among a batch of 15,000 Ecstasy pills seized last year in Mississauga. The pills are sold for up to $40 each. |

Why is it that whenever the media has something to say about e and the entire rave culture it always has a negative side to it?
I have heard of PMA and have accidentally taken one myself a couple of years ago .. but I took only one, so the side effects were minimal. The article does not emphasize that you need to take a large dosage for all those side effects to occur.
Coincidentally, it was a white Mitsubishi as well! :conf: |

Yeah the media is sooooo clueless when it comes to stuff like this. I mean simple things like the cost of pills and some of the effects. It seems they only concentrate on extreme aspects.
Isn't jounalism all about the gathering of facts and putting forth an impartial story?
It seems they really only care about sensationalism.
So yes... be afraid (very afraid) of the evil pill of death!!! lol

They were the original batch of PMA pills that showed up in North America... they were the same pills that were responsible for 2 or 3 deaths in the US.
cops don't really understand how the whole pill logo/colour thing works, hell most ravers don't even know :D so because those original PMA pills were white mitsu's, they assume that most/all pma pills will look the same which is obviously not true... |

I don't understand?? :conf:
The columnist quoted outside sources and they're misinformed?
I don't mean to rain on anyone's choice or advocacy of popping E (cause it's really none of my business and has been discussed at length already) but I don't get it.
How are they misinformed?
Lets make an analogy. (I've personally been through this)
You're camping in the mountains and a park ranger comes to your campground and tells you that they just received word from the ranger in the next park that there is a mountain lion on the prowl and its killed 2 hikers already.
Why oh why would anyone in their right mind go hiking??? Was the ranger misinformed by the other ranger?
Who would take that chance???
I'm hoping someone can explain to me....?

The story probably has some merit but to make it newsworthy the media exaggerates their information even to the extent that they'll call a pill "death"! Just think of what people who don't go to raves / parties think - they really don't have a clue - which is sad. |

Believe me, I'd be the first person to agree with the fact that media distorts truth.
But even on the off chance that this reporter might be right (despite their choice of words) they're talking about a pill that can (and has) kill(ed).
It's bad enough that vitamins don't even have quality control but this would scare the hell outta me if I saw one lying around...:eyes: |

Well it seems to me that the "only" outside source quoted is Detective Ian Briggs. We all know how misinformed the police can be about rave culture and the "drug" scene.
However i DID post this for a reason. I feel it is important to know what dangers may lurk out there. Although I find it very hard to believe that this specific pill is called "death" --- "now there's a seller!!"
Its also good to get some discussion about the validity of our local media.

The cops/media put out this type of stuff under the guise of "informing the public"... but they're not really trying to inform the public, they're trying to scare the public into not taking E... this strategy doesn't work, it's been proven over and over again... this article won't stop anyone from taking E the next time they go out and party... Not only that, but it actually makes things worse because the article implies that as long as you don't take a pill called "death" or a "double stack mitsubishi" you won't get a PMA pill, which is absolutely not true... |

Hehehee, I just love the way media distors the facts... the last time I've seen a pill of any kind/quality going for more than $20 was like... never! But then again, there might be some really desperate people who actually have so much trouble finding this drug that they are willing to pay up to $40... |
