australian wines are great value right now cos of way too many new plantings in the last 10 or so years, way oversupplying demand. Thus good wine is cheap, but there's a lot of rubbish out there as well. Still, makes for very cheap sangrias when you can get ok-bit below par wines for $2-3.
If you ike fresh tasing whites, the sauvignon blancs from new zealand are great.
the wine rack at the moment is all hunter valley (australia) and stellenbosch (south africa) reds. both very good value compared to the european produce

tried some yellowtail merlot a couple of weeks ago, always seems to get mentioned by americans as good value, and was rated as quaff's value red of the week. I figured it must be an export only brand as i'd never noticed it before, and cor chief, was it crap. maybe they do better in other varieties, but I won't bother trying after that effort

Being half Australian Jacobs creek holds a special place in my heart, especially as I've actually swum in Jacobs creek (probably not THE jacobs creek :D) but my favourites are the Semillion Chardonay, but my most favourite is their Dry Riesling, that was stunning

Actually, you're right on. They ship over all the crap to us Americans as we'll drink anything :stongue:

I try to do a bottle a week, often times less. Right now I've got a 2001 Valderiz. I was sooooo excited to get home and experience, I put in the corkscrew and the whole cork just sorta disentegrates into the wine. I was livid!* as it was a moderately priced bottle. From now on, I vow $10 or less, there's lot of good out there. Here's my current fave:

i just attended a wine course a couple days ago and was surprised to find a Chenin Blanc from South Africa  What an upcoming, cool region...

For those of you with wine racks, I wanna get one for Christmas. What do you suggest?

Kratosija , it's red wine from Montenegro. It's wine with none of the bull chemicals found in other wines that give people a hangover the next day, it's great with steak and ribs. Baby Back ribs, garlic bread with Kratosija.

Huh? They don't add chemicals to wines. Are you referring to sulfites, which are natural

What I meant to say that it's wine in the purest form. Just like how Moonshine is hard liquor in the purest form (200% proof)
