Its responses like these that remind me why I never discuss wines with anyone. People can't seem to remember that our choices/favorites are our own opinions.

What are you talking about? I merely stated my enthusiasm for Malbec :conf: Ohhhhh.. I see now. Maybe I should have typed Ohhhhh!!! instead of Ewwwww! ?

must say I tend to get a little jealous of the varieties available in some other countries. Since australia mhas a decent industry of it's own, imports are very few, and tend to be very expensive or very cheap and nasty. I always get confused when shopping in places likle england which have sucha massive range, imported from pretty much everywhere.

On the subject of screw caps, I think they're great. My wife doesn't drink at all, so a bottle almost never gets finished in one sitting. Screw cap makes it easy to store for a couple of days. Not so sure about the storage benefits, as the high end callaring wines still tend to go for corks. As noted in a few posts, it's all about the ceremony of the wine. Most great wines I've had have been remembered asmuch for the company and the setting as the wine itself.

These work better than screwing the cap back on. When you re-screw, all the oxygen is still there for the volume of liquid you removed from the bottle. These vaccuum some of the air out.

My mum is allergic to one of the preservatives in most red wines and gets exactly the symptoms you describe. I assume you are allergic to the same thing (It's actually quite common), in which case I can assure you that it is NOT found in all reds... Just gotta check the label before you drink it.
